One Disruptive Passenger.......
« on: June 23, 2019, 08:31:01 am »
....scrambles two Typhoons!

Were they planning to shoot?

A loud bang heard across Essex was a sonic boom caused by military aircraft, police have said.

Stansted Airport said two RAF Typhoon jets had escorted a Jet2 flight in to land because of a disruptive passenger on board.

A 25-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assault and endangering an aircraft.

The plane was en route to Dalaman in Turkey when it was redirected back to Stansted, an airline spokeswoman said.

My take, for what it is worth,on the situation was that initial reports indicated that  a passenger was attempting to gain access to the flight deck, in that type of scenario you do not wait and see what develops  you go to `Plan A` without delay because any delay could be critical. If the intercepting  aircraft are on the wingtips of the target they have the options to hand if they are sat on the runway immediate response is impossible.

Perhaps we should scramble a brace of Typhoons next time someone spills wine of a flat mate's sofa.  ;D

I agree with Grahams view. If nothing was done and it became a serious event then they would get criticised. Also it gives a chance to keep "ready" for this sort of event. On a lighter side, it was a Saturday evening and they responded in seconds. So the RAF does not completely shut down at weekends after all. LOL

To me the response appears to be OTT for one young, female passenger, described as disruptive.

The flight crew remained in control and, as far as I can tell, didn't declare an emergency.

Who decided to call in the troops I wonder?

The RAF has a standby crew available 24/7 and 365 day a year. I admire these pilots giving up time when others are enjoying themselves.
