G'day all,

After a few years away from this hobby I'm back into it.

I'm a Mac user using a virtual desktop Windows 10 for Planeplotter - as far as PP is going, no issues at all.

What I am finding difficult to work out is fixing the plane symbols! I install Nicks program for different plane symbols and Ive innevitably stuffed it up and now I have yellow circles!!

If I could provoke the vast wisdom here that would be great on how to fix it.

Kindest of regards,

Hi BigRed, good to hear from you.

Is it the PP aifrcraft icons that are the issue, thr ones on the PP map?

Hi mate! Long time no hear lol

Its the icons showing on the PP app - Originally I was seeing basic aircraft Icons - now after attempting to install Nicks app I see coloured dots!

Any help is appreciated

Thanks.  I'm away from home for a few days.  I'll take a look at PlanePlotter when I get home.

Just installed the add-on. Only found it yesterday!

Looks like you get coloured dots instead of symbols if there is no type being picked up from basestation.sqb.

Default symbol set shows a plane symbol in this case.

Hence an sqb file problem, not PP.

I thought Nic's program added to the 'UserTag' field in the SQB. Something like $1 to 9 or $A to $F that correspond to individual planesymbol.txt files.

From the help file:

"User tag for an aircraft includes the sequence "$1", "$2", "$3", and so on. For example, if an aircraft is tagged with $7, then PlanePlotter will use the symbol contained in the file "planesymbol7.txt". Tag numbers from 1 to 9 and A to F are supported (total 15 different symbols). If there is no tag or if the tag contains a number for which a symbol file is not found, then the default symbol "planesymbol.txt" is used."

So, if you have the UserTag field populated and also have the corresponding planesymbol.txt file - it should work.

I don't use this feature as I use the UserTag field for other purposes so I cannot test it.

It might be worth inspecting your SQB file and checking that there are appropriate entries in the UserTag field and that you have a series of planesymbol.txt files in the main PP folder.

Looks like it is important to make sure the program finds the correct version of basestation.sqb if you have more than one version on your system.

My install found the correct one so correctly displayed symbols. But just pointed PP at another basestation.sqb on my system and got coloured dots.

Which is what I would expect, as the other sqb file won't have the correct entries in the UserTag field. That aside, I thought the default planesymbol was a plane and not a dot - perhaps Nic's program modifies the original planesymbol.txt file to show a dot?

OK, Im a bit confused.

Since there's a few replies I will tomorrow evening have a look at whether I have a file locations issue etc.

Your right though Ian H in that I am getting different coloured spots.

I will get back to you all soon.
