Doesnt sound good at all, hopefully both sets of crew ejected safely, I never worked on tornados at Lossiemouth just at Marham and Cottesmore when the TTTE was still operational.

Fingers crossed

Heard this on the squadron frequencies earlier.  Very active on the Tain range this morning, and we're all hoping that both crews have been rescued from both aircraft.

When were you at TTTE Moonie ? I was there 84 to 90. Mostly in ASF but also VASF for a while. I remember when we lost G-74 and one of our own (B-52 ?) that had a mid-air in the Lake District. Sad times then and now. Do you remember I-40 going for the land speed record ?

I was there 92-97 the only incident i remember was I-41 surfing down the runway. Italian Jet crashed by a German crew pre arming the landing gear up post a roller, only he forgot to touch down first!!! Sparks everywhere. 2 years later fixed by us, I was in ASF as a leckie.

Always sad when we lose some of the family, really not looking good for these poor souls

Hi Andy,

Missed you by two years then. I didn't realise that I-41 had done the same as I-40 ! That was in ASF for almost a year aswell. Being FGCS/ANAC/CODA, we shared the same work area as the Leckies in ASF. Did you work with Matt Grainger then ? We can go to PM's if you fancy a chat about the good old days at Cottesmore !

Tornado jet crash: Wreckage located on seabed..

he wrecks of two Tornados that crashed on Tuesday, leading to the loss of three airmen, have been located on the seabed of the Moray Firth.

Survey vessel Ocean Star, which is at the scene with another boat Smit Yare, has taken imagery of the wreckage.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said minehunter HMS Cattistock was also being sent to the crash site.

The MoD added that recovery work would not take place until next week once a salvage vessel was on scene.

HMS Cattistock will take further images of the crash site, a spokesman said.

The names of three airmen who died after their Tornados GR4 jets crashed in the Moray Firth were released on Thursday.

Bangor-born Flt Lt Hywel Poole, 28, died in hospital after being airlifted from the scene.

The bodies of Sqn Ldr Samuel Bailey, 36, from Nottingham, and Flt Lt Adam Sanders, 27, who grew up in Lancashire, have still to be recovered.

The sole survivor of the incident, who has not yet been named, is in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

The MoD said it could not give any further details on his condition.

The planes from 15 (Reserve) Sqn at RAF Lossiemouth, in Moray, crashed into the sea south off Wick, in Caithness, during a training flight on Tuesday afternoon.
