For info the message on the Forum now says "The Kinetic forums have been taken off-line whilst we reorganise the content and prune expired posts. Please revisit later or try one of the support forums available through your search engine."

Same as the screenshot in my previous message.  ;)

As a moderator of an automotive forum  I can see the reason for dumping ,over the last few months we have had advertising spam and links to other sites which advertise in in the background and noting to do with the automotive trade .
I think its a very cheap way that some companies have resorted too .
even had one that posted sexey underware in its signiture .
this makes the moderators job more involved as every post has to be vetted for content.
The difference is that I pm the member and give them a chance to ammend their ways ,if they don't then they are no longer a member

But has anyone noticed that happening on the Kinetic forum?  I'm on there all day and I haven't.

But the main issue isn't the "housekeeping" but the absence of any warning and the deletion of posts including ones started the day before.

Surely there are better ways to address the claimed "issues"?  And what do you mean by "dumping"?

Dont forget, in the early years of Kinetic forum, will was stopped from spending hours on the forum, does this now mean Chris will not be on the forum much ?

Yes, Will was told to stop responding to posts as he had no time left for development.  And in those early days there were lots of Basestation software changes.

But now the product is stable and I didn't notice Chris spending a lot of time on the forum.  And now there are other forums providing support, such as this one.

Interesting, not a word here from Kinetic Chris who has managed to post on another forum in response to a reported SBS-1 fault.  ???

Obviously that forum wasn't Kinetic's own.

Probably that is because we had a go at them for what they are doing  >:(

This was considered some time ago but since it was well established on the Kinetic forum there was no benefit in competing.

Should the Kinetic forum stay offline and/or the logo creators want it, we can add a logo gallery feature.

Just my 2p worth:

Suggestions that they won't bring back the forum would only work if it was known that Kinetic people frequented others to answer questions only Kinetic would have answers to. But then they are letting others pay the expense of running a forum so some financial contribution might be fair.

I didn't post on the Kinetic forum much mainly because the answers to previous questions (now gone) meant I found my answer. So even if the archive of the forum was made available as read only, it might save reinventing the wheel.

Can't even look at the forum on http://archive.org/web/web.php since it was not recently captured. :(

If Kinetic's concern is that its forum "had become a hub for advertising, spam and other non appropriate activities", maybe a read only archive would be better than nothing at all?

What I don't understand is the total silence.

This seems rather short sighted of Kinetic to me, I hope they reconsider. Independent support forums are great, especially this one. But as has already been mentioned I purchased from Kinetic and I would expect them to keep a support forum going for the benefit of both Kinetic themselves and their customers. They have a great product, but this attitude doesn't sit well with an educated and intelligent user base who have purchased an expensive item.

I make no apology for complaining, but it is sad that I feel the need to.

Cheers,

Keef.

At last some progress.  :)

I haven't been able to speak to Chris but have been assured that the Kinetic Forum will be back soon.

Apparently there have been some technical issues that needed to be sorted and this has taken longer than expected.  Kinetic is taking the opportunity to add some new features but I don't have any more detail.

So, hopefully, we shall find out more soon.  But when is another matter.

Watch this space.
