Hi Guys'
I had to replace my trusty old Toshiba laptop last year and use that with a Teamviewer link to my Desktop PV in my den.
My system consists of the \Den PC, which is an HP PCrunning wndows 10 home editiom wired via ethernet to my Virgin Hub3 and my "new" laptop is an Acer Aspire 315 running windows 10S and wifi connected to the router. To my surprise I found that under the "networking option on the laptop I could see the ID of my Desktop PC and I could go direct to files in the main file structure without the need for Teamviewer. It would not allow me to see my SBS3 running on the Desktop but that didn't matter as I had Teamviewer.
It was only when working on updating my picture files that I found the use of the network feature was very useful as I could see the ones I was working on "in real time" is the best way to describe it. All of a sudden about a week ago my laptop and my Desktop PC stopped showing any computer links in these Network and I have been unable to get it all working again.
I was just wondering if anyone out there has any ideas how to sort it?
Thanks fo any assistance in advance

Hi Mike

Windows has always (from memory) allowed locally connected PCs to share files and resources, such as printers, scanners etc.  This is usually accomplished by creating a HomeGroup.

I used this a lot when the children were at home and all had their own PCs pn our local, home network.

This article may help:

Maybe one of the PCs isn't connected to your HomeGRoup?

Thanks Mike,

I gave it a quick look over and will have a go at sorting when I get back from my dog walk/daily constituational.

It is strange but this morning the Den PC is showing the LAPTop and allowing me to se the files on iy (only a few as the laptop only has a small SSD drive but on the laptop it refuses to show a connection. Unfortunately I want to use the Den PC from the laptop so need to figure it out. Will let you know how I get on.

Mike,

I had a look through the instructions and was trying to check exactly what was happening before I started anything, so with the 2 PCs next to each other turned them on, firstly the Main PC (as that is usually on all day just that I sit in front of it normally in the mornings) and the Laptop was then switched on (afternoon and evenings so in same room as wife!) and without making any changes found that both are already talking to each other again. However I could find no link to creating a Homegroup so for now I will keeps fingers crossed that it carries on working.
I will never fully understand computers......... :-\

Thanks for the update Mike.

The link I provided shows how to create a HomeGroup.

Each device needs to set permissions for what other members of the Group can do - View and or edit files.

Basically you create a Group which devices can join.  The device "owner" chooses what others can do with their own files.

Having said that, I found this which suggests HomeGroup has been removed from Windows10.  But replaced with the option to share files and folders:
