Yes London buses in the 60s. RT, RTL, RTW, RF, RM and the low bridge RLH.

The arrival of newer versions coincided with me leaving London - no character those new ones!

Something like this one ?

A Daimler CVG5

Not like that Ian, although the Reg on that gives it away as an old Bolton bus (WH). The one I remember had a normal 4 gate folding entry door at the front. The back was a bit like an Atlantean, but the fron was extremely curved around the upper deck corners, and I think there was no large divider on the glass at the front (upper deck), only a small divider. I seem to remember that I saw a similar type surface again in Bolton with Stagecoach many years later (mid 80's), but not quite the same, although it could have been the colour that made it look so different.

Mike, none of those. Ian, that could be it, however as I was looking at Mikes picture links I just typed in 4169 Bolton, nothing, but when I typed in 4170 Bolton I got it ! So I now have a picture but can't work out how to upload it !

Hi Mike, that's the one. Didn't realise it was copyrighted. Lovely looking Bus though. I must have travelled on that one and its sisters loads of times coming home from school !

Looked for it on http://www.buslistsontheweb.co.uk/index.htm but couldn't locate anything.

Now that you know the reg, the exact model can be looked up but they don't record it as 4169.  ???

The one in the photo is 4170. 4169 would be registered DDB169C, and amazingly there are pictures of it on Flickr in a "stored" condition !

Didn't see those Mike. Great pictures and now I see it is the same age as me, and I am probably just as knackered ! It seems they acquired it in 78 so I guess it was based in Bolton until being withdrawn by the GMPTE or whatever it was called at that time (I think SELNEC ended before then). It certainly brings back memories for me. I used to love those buses. I also had a soft spot for the Mancunians, and later the MCW buses which I think had a stepped front window (lower) from memory. These quite often operated on the 400 route but I don't remember them being based in Bolton so maybe they operated from the Stockport end of the route or Ashton under Lyne.

I still have a Child Red Rover ticket from 1959, cost 2/6d.

Used it to get from Crystal Palace to Golders Green on the No2 which was the first route to have the Routemaster.  Compared to the RT, RTL, RTW, it was sheer luxury.
