Hi,

Anybody want to have a stab at helping me with Router settings so I can see my own local VRS traffic while away from my own network?

VRS suggests http://81.103.213.149/VirtualRadar

But doesnt seem to want to play. I am on a Virginmedia Hub3, but set as a modem only,, with an attached TPLink router (if that matters)

Cheers

Anmer

Your router will need to have port forwarding configured to route external, incoming calls to the local device running VRS on whatever port is being used.

Google "Port Forwarding" for your make/model router.

Hi

I have followed the tutorial on the TPLink website to the letter, to set up a static IP for the machine I want to forward to, and to port forward incoming requests to that machine... I am pretty sure I am good to go.

But still no luck.... (I can only test with my mobile phone with wifi off and using 4G data)

I have switched off my firewalls altogether on the target PC and hey presto the phone on celldata can 'see' my VRS map and window.

So, do I have to leave the Firewall down,, or is there a way to taylor the settings somehow to only allow connections to this one function?

Sorry (I promise my set up is nearly up and running how I want it, so the daily questions will soon  stop!)

Thanks

Depends on the firewall being used.

Typically one can set "allowed" apps and IP addresses within the firewall configuration (and within the router).

What firewall did you turn off?

Hi,

Just the standard Firewall Windows sets up... I dont have any additional AV software.

I dodn't use the Windows Firewall but there appears to be an option to "Allow an app through firewall" and "Advanced Settings".

Maybe see what you can do with either of those?

Is it still working now???

(because it isn't at my work.... so either something has changed at the house machine, or it is being blocked here)

Nice one.... thanks.

Now the next question (I am coming to the end of my setup I promise)...

The dongle attached to the Rpi at the house will hopefully stay connected forever now feeding FA/FR24 and my own copies of VRS which I can get to via this portforwarded address.

I have VRS on my Surface, which should Boris ever let us travel again I would take with me. I already have a second Flightaware Dongle, could I physically plug that in and pick up local things to where I am (using Dump1090) and be uploading two sets of 'local' data??
