Hi folks,

after an automatic Windows 10 update on December 15 2021, it seems that the sqb of my SBS-1 device simply disappeared in the folder where it was supposed to be in. I tried to sort out where it could be, like the quarantaine box of my virus scanner, trash basket, virtual folders where it could be in, tried to find deleted files via software like the Easeus data recover tool, tried to follow the steps described in this clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1Km5134uWY&t=16s%EF%BF%BC%EF%BF%BCGood

Well it's all in vain, the sqb file is untraceble and have to restart from a backup file from 2 week ago.

I don't know if anyone of you folks had this kind of trouble after a stupid Microsoft update...and if so any help is appreciated for the unlucky ones who have / had this disaster.

Regards, Stef

Welcome.

I've never experienced or heard of the Basestation.sqb file disappearing but that doesn't mean it can't or doesn't happen.

What's the folder path for your Basestation installation?  If, as you say it's not in the Virtual Store, maybe it has "disappeared".

In which case you either have to start afresh or revert to a backup,

Systems can fail for lots of reasons which is why I recommend a daily backup to an external storage device.  I use Acronis True Image which has got me out of trouble many times. The daily backup is automated overnight and is for all my data and sytem files.  I can do a full restore or individual files.

Hi,

it's in C:\Program Files (x86)\SBS Backup

All files of Bastestation are in the same folder, but after the Windows update, the sqb is missing.

In the same virtual path an sqb of 6 months ago was found, but not the one of the morning of Dec. 15, when I closed the Basestation to get the updates of Windows installed and restart my device. Opening Basestation afterwards gave only empty flights, thus no sqb anymore.

It's a mistery, and yes it all could be avoided with a regular backup. I do it every two weeks and yesterday evening was supposed to be my backup day, so I lost 2 weeks of data. Murphies law did strike again...

Thanks.  Did you check the Virtual Store for the correct User?

Hi,

yes I did, meanwhile in that virtual folder the sqb of yesterday evening is in there, the backup of two weeks ago I placed into it when I started to run my Basestation. The only thing I could do is undue the latest Windows update and see what might happen, but I fear this is useless.

Thanks Stef.

Not sure what to suggest other than look at backup software in case it happens again.

My Windows 10 is up-to-date and I haven't experienced the same thing as you.

Open windows explorer (WINDOWS Key + E) the in the search box type *.sqb

This should search all the drives on your computer for any files ending in .sqb. Hopefully this will yield some luck as to the location of your basestation.sqb

Open windows explorer (WINDOWS Key + E) the in the search box type *.sqb

I think this will only search for files associated with the logged in User.  And won't find it if it's disappeared  ???

Hi All,
The below is taken from a windows forum regarding the latest update.
Old bugs making new appearances
A real cause for concern is the re-emergence of the Temporary User bug that was reported in late 2020, causing saved user files and settings to vanish and forcing users to log into a guest profile. This thankfully appears to be a rare issue with limited reports, and alongside rolling back the update you can manually move the user files if needed.
I would as a first course of action roll back the update, and see if your files return. In future set the Windows updates to download only and before updating check your backups are done and safe just in case this happens again.

Good luck and i hope you get back to normal soon.
Regards

Thanks Steve.

This post has alerted me to a problem I'd never come across before.  And highlights the value of daily backups.

Thanks to Stef for sharing and everyone else who's contributed.
