I have had SBS since its release over 20 years ogo.
currently have 3x units all SBS 1.
The one in the loft wasn't connecting and appears to have died. Putting one of the others in and all ok.
So Bin it? But my temptation is pull it apart
Is there any particular bits worth looking at eg Voltage regulators?
thanks stef

How do you power and connect to the one that's died?
Here to Help.

Have you tried it out of the loft, using a different lead.
Its been up to 30c outside so inside temp will be higher in the loft. Try to use it out of the loft next to a pc using as Mike says a power supply or new usb lead.
Its possible a cable connection could be faulty cause by the heat.

The SBS still has about 3 years to go before its 20th anniversary.

Hope you get yours working.

Ok I knew it was close to 20 years - I thought it was 1993. Thanks
Yes will try and power it with seperate 5v Supply and USB on downstairs computer. (Aware of switch on back!)
been doing this too long but still prefer a basic SBS1 over anything else.
Use a Belkin Hub in the loft and working fine with replacement SBS

Just a tip, try to connect this guy https://sorinelectronics.com/ i follow his you tube channel https://www.youtube.com/@electronicsrepairschool and he is very good in repairing stuff. maybe he can find out what is broken in the SBS-1. And maybe he will make a YT video about it. He has a "No Fix No Fee policy" and "90 days warrenty". You never know if he can fix it.

Ok thanks.
USB is dead, but it powers up with +5vDC external supply so that will go into the Caravan.
