A bit off topic. OK. Way off topic and not plane related.

What is the average wait time for a visit to the Emergency room at your local Hospital.

I ask as I had to take my Mom a few days ago and the wait was around 9 hours before they final got her admitted and into a room for a few days stay.

Just wanted to see if healthcare was messed up elsewhere.

Replies to the forum or private message is OK.

Thanks all

Here in the UK it varies, depending on location, day of the week and time.

I had to go to the Minor Injuries two weeks ago and was seen immediately.  A few days ago my son went to a similar unit in a different town and waited 5 hours.

Accident & Emergency (A&E - our ER) wait times can be quite long.

The UK target is to see 95% of A&E patients within 4 hours.  In April 2024 the achieved average in England was only 74%.  Just under 2% of all attendees waited more than 12 hours.

An ageing population, Covid impact, shortage of staff, employee dissatisfaction, fragmented systems and antiquated practices don't help!

Only 5 hours! He was lucky.
Where I work we have had people stuck in the back of ambulances for over 12 hours before they have been able to handover the patients to the ED teams. At points there have been welfare vans out the front of the hospital so the ambulance crews could get a hot drink and some food, which is very nesessary during the winter. This has a HUGE knock on impact to patient care and general outcomes and is not good for the patient or the hospital. Thankfully it has calmed down from this states, but with tourist season just around the corner then....who knows.

Thanks for the replies. Was just wondering. With our open Southern border policy our wait times have only increased. So many times I'll see people who have gotten into a fight and end up in the emergency room for a bloody nose.

My mom ended up in the hospital for 3 days with a painful intestinal infection. Everyone in the
hospital is overworked at 12 hour days.

Once again, thanks for the replies.

Mac,
