Hi Fellow Hobbyists,

I've currently ran into a slight problem. Last week my VRS was working fine with OpenAIP as my Airspace Layers. However this week my Airspace Layers have disappeared.

I am using the (rikgale/VRSCustomLayers) off of github. My OpenAIP Client ID is still active, using current Firefox browser, Win11 64bit. I hadn't changed any settings prior to my conundrum.

Yesterday spent the day uninstalling VRS & reinstalling with what I originally had, but to my surprise still no Airspace Layers. I even made a second OpenAIP key just to be sure.

Any help much appreciated,
Simon.

Hi Simon.

I've not come acorss this one before.

Going to start with a few questions - a) to fish for infomation at the source of the problem and b) to gauge your level of IT skills so I can pitch further trouble shooting accordingly. I should probably point out that I have never tried to set up or use the script under windows.

1a) Have you tried using a different browser?
1b) Have you tried clearing the browser cache and tempoary files?
2) Do you use other layers that are part of the script? and do these work?
3) Do you know how to open the console window of Firefox?
4) Are the layers missing at all zoom levels or just some zoom levels?

Apologies if responses are slow, life is very full at the moment.
Cheers,
Rik

Hi Rik,

Thankyou for your input.
I must admit i am new to all this so my IT skills are average.

To your questions:
1a) Have you tried using a different browser? (Yes)

1b) Have you tried clearing the browser cache and tempoary files? (Yes)

2) Do you use other layers that are part of the script? and do these work? (Yes)

3) Do you know how to open the console window of Firefox? (No)

4) Are the layers missing at all zoom levels or just some zoom levels? (Yes At All Zoom Levels)

There is one thing I have noticed, I clicked your Link Rik (Cornwallvrs) & I see that when i click on "Airspace's / Airports" your Airspace's work in my browser, However as mentioned when i do the same with my personal setup and same browser nothing at all.

No need to apologize Rik for any slow replies &
Thankyou for taking the time to help,
Simon.

Hi Simon

Do you have Chrome/Edge on your PC? Using one of these go to your VRS webpage and if you push F12 this should open up the Dev window of the browser (you may have to agree to open it on Edge). Chrome opens a sepearte window and Edge has it next to the main window. (Screen shots posted) On Edge you will click the button circled or on Chrome you will need to go to the Console tab. Can you post a screen shot of what you see?

My current thinking is that you may have hit the rate limits of OpenAIP. I believe they only allow a set number of requets for map tiles in a given time so if you had been doing a lot of scrolling about the map an zooming in and out then you could have hit those limits. If you are able to see the airspace on your PC from my VRS it would imply that something is off at your end and this is my initial thinking - but I would like the console screen shots from one of the broswers to check.

Thanks,
Rik

Evening Rik,

Thank you for your assistance so far, very much appreciated.

Just jumped online now as I just now found the issue.

I just downloaded (Version 2.4.4) and thought I wonder what will happen as I was running 3.0.0 Beta. I installed it while still keeping the 3.0.0 Beta version and straight away the Airspace Layers have come back.

Not sure why this is, as I'm no expert, I guess there is some kind of code beyond my knowledge that required to have both versions installed. The weird part is I actually was originally running both versions over a month ago & deleted the V2.4.4 however the v3.0.0 worked with the layers between then and last week so I'm not really sure unless it had something to do with cache or a registry.

I hope this helps others out if they come across the same problem.

I would also like to sincerely thank Rik for his input and willingness to help a fellow enthusiast.

Many thanks,
Simon (Thumbs Up)

Hi Simon.

Great that you found the issue.

The script 'should' work with both versions of VRS - but I have only ever used V3.0.x, so can't completely comment on V2.4.4. I still reckon you might have hit this rate limites of OpenAIP. If it happens again check the console logs as suggested - there will be a lot of errors and post a screen shot.

Happy spotting.
R :)

Hi Rik,

Thankyou, yes I'm glad the issue was resolved, very strange & not exactly sure why I need both versions to get layers.

Cheers Rik, will definitely keep your instructions on your above input in the event via rate limits. Thankyou for those instructions Rik I'm very grateful that you had gone out of your way to help.

Happy Spotting right back at you Rik,
Simon.
