Good afternoon all,

Happily been using my SBS-1 on my new laptop for 15 months or so now with no problems whatsoever. That is until today.

It started up ok and was working for 20 mins or so, i was editing an entry when an error screen (i think it said memory full) popped up and my PC froze. Even CTL ALT DEL wouldn't bring up the task manager. I had to force close the PC and reboot, I then attempted to restart Basestation which initially started but a error screen again popped up after 20 or so seconds.

This time i could close Basestation without a force close of the PC.

Again after a PC reboot I tried again but when trying to open Basestation i get a DISK i/O error

I looked in Basestation reporter and there are no records in there at all.

I think i have reinstalled the drivers not sure if the right ones

I have renamed my .SQB and reference .SQB

But all i get is a DISK i/O error now

The PC other than this issue appears to be fine but i have nothing else running on it apart from the internet.

Any help would be appreciated

Many Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy

Does the laptop work OK when Basestation isn't running?

A couple of other questions.

Do you know the RAM (memory) installed on the laptop?

Do you know the location of the Basestation.exe file that is used to launch BaseStation?  If you have a shortcut, right click to open Properties and make a note of the file path in Target.

I suspect the issue may be a bad bmp file in the OperatorFlags folder but it could be something else.

We should be able to resolve this for you, maybe doing a remote connection.

Hi

Thanks for getting back to me,

Yes my computer appears to be fine other than this issue, this is all i use the laptop for and internet browsing.

The laptop has 8GB of RAM of which 7.65 is usable

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Kinetic\BaseStation\BaseStation.exe" is the location of the .exe file

How do you check for a bad .bmp file????

A remote session would be fine, i am only available today until 1 pm, tomorrow after 12 pm or any midweek evening after 7pm

Many Thanks

Andy

Use BMPCHK.

Tomorrow after 12pm is best for me if we need to do a remote session.

HI again,

I have run the BMP checker, it did find two mis sized BMPs but the problem still persists

When i start basestation the DISK i/O error pops up when Opening database is displayed during the load sequence... I have noticed that there is Basestation.SQB-journal file in my folder that i have never noticed before (thats not to say its wrong BTW ive just never noticed it)

Anyhow, i would greatly appreciate for you to do a remote view tomorrow afternoon.  CAn you add details of what i need to do and ill have everything ready before then

many thanks

Andy

Thanks for the upate and confirming the deletion of the journal file.

Basically, another example of the dreaded Windows VirtualStore causing issues.

After creating a new BaseStation folder on the C drive to which all required files were copied, BaseStation ran without the i/o disk error.  New shortcuts created and old folders deleted.
