Good evening - hope somebody can help me.

I've got a new laptop and I (thought) that I had successfully migrated my SBS over to the new laptop. Certainly the radar display etc. is working just fine.

I just opened up Base Station Reporter and found there was no data there. When I closed it down I then got an error message saying that it can write to the BaseStationReporter.ini file.

I found that this had been copied across to the new laptop and although I've now done this and restarted the laptop I'm still getting the same results.

Any ideas please as to how I can resolve the problem.

How did you install BaseStation on the new laptop?

Did you copy and paste files from the old PC or install from a CD file?

And do you still have access to the old PC and files?

Hi - I and the IT guy helping me copied all the files across although I think he did run the set up process.

Ignore my last comments! Just remembered what really happened

We downloaded the software from the Kinetics website and ran it from there. All we copied across was the basestation ini file, the SQB file and just now the basestation reporter file.

The old laptop is still very much alive!

My guess is the original PC installation of BaseStation was in ProgramFiles and the "active" sqb file was in the VirtualStore.  In which case this sqb needs copying to the relevant folder on the new PC.  This may be the VirtualStore, depending on the new install path.

Thanks for the reply.

I'll certainly see if my IT guy can work something out, however on the old laptop a "d" drive was set up and everything was put on there rather than in ProgramFiles.

Once again thanks for your advice and I'll see how it goes.

I can do a remote connection with you at an agreed time.  If you want to do this, it would be good to have all the old BaseStation folders and files on a memory card/stick connected to the new laptop.

If the new laptop has BaseStaion installed in ProgramFiles, the "active" (with historic sessions and aircraft records) sqb file from the old PC must be placed in the VirtualStore folder.

Hi Anmer - that would be very much appreciated.

On the new laptop we didn't install everything in ProgramFiles but on a separate folder on the C drive.  Would it be worth trying to reinstall everything in ProgramFiles first?

If not, perhaps I could liaise with my IT guy and then if you are still happy to help, I could have him with me when we do a remote connection.

If we're doing a Remote Connect session, hold off making any changes.  And I don't think we need your "IT guy" around.

I've resolved these issues dozens of times without IT support  :)

The important bit is having the old files on a memory stick/card connected to the new laptop so I can view and use the files when needed.

I've sent you a personal message about the Remote Connect.

Anmer - very many thanks for all your help earlier this morning. Everything is working just fine now and the re-boot worked.

As promised I've made a donation - thanks for your sterling work.

Glad it's all working as expected.  And thanks for the donation which will help with the forum running costs.
