Police have appealed for information after a laser pen was directed at a flight crew landing an aircraft at Inverness Airport.

The crew said the beam was seen in the cockpit as the plane came in to land in the early hours of Friday.

About time lasers were banned from sale to the general public.

We have had several such episodes here in Norway lately, mostly involving planes landing at Trondheim Airport Vaernes. The latest incident happenned two weeks ago, when some idiot pointed a laser pen at at female pilot landing an ambulance helicopter to pick up a patient at a remote mountain village.  Fortunately her night vision googles took most of the direct light, but her right eye was  blind for several days.
If the police ever catch anyof these morons, I hope they charge them with attempted murder.
The legislators says it is impossible to ban sale of these pens, because of EU rules... and we are not even EU members!

"This is the polar opposite of the sort of harmless prank some people might perceive it to be. Any time a laser is shone into a cockpit it has the potential to temporarily blind the pilot, which in turn causes a real danger that the crew could lose control of the aircraft.

"The consequences of that do not bear thinking about.

"I hope this latest case acts as a stern warning to others that this is not an innocent prank but can have deadly consequences, and we will arrest anyone found using these pens in such a foolish way.

"I would also encourage anyone who knows of someone who has one of these dangerous pens and has used them in this way to call me so we can action before someone is seriously hurt."
