I remember when our Coast Guard Station here in San Diego had these. They could land in the bay and taxi up a ramp from the bay onto the tarmac for parking. Our Coast Guard Station sits across from our airport KSAN. When Coast Guard planes needed to take off the six lane highway was closed and the plane would taxi to the airport for take off. Neat sight but not done these days anymore.
