A suspicious package at Glasgow Airport has been found to be harmless, an airport spokesman has confirmed.

Bomb disposal experts were called to the cargo area at about 11:15 on Monday.

A 150m exclusion zone was set up as a precaution while investigations were carried out.

Police said there had been no danger to public safety. The airport said its normal business had not been disrupted.

The alarm was raised by workers in the cargo area of the terminal when, during routine tests, they became suspicious of a box.

A section of the airport was cordoned off while inquiries were carried out.

However, it was later discovered the package was harmless.

It was revealed that, after a four-hour operation, the package contained only some "harmless" plastic circuit breakers.

A spokesman for Glasgow Airport said the box was found to be a "routine piece of cargo."

A police spokeswoman told the Evening Times: "Staff became suspicious while carrying out routine checks.

"All cargo which comes into the airport is checked and double checked and this can include X-rays and hand searches.
