Crunch meeting held to safeguard Highland air links

CRUNCH talks over the future of flights between the Highlands and London will be held today (Friday) — a day after budget airline Flybe announced the sale of its Gatwick runway slots to easyJet for £20million.

Chief secretary to the treasury, Danny Alexander  will meet with representatives of Highlands and Islands Airports, the Scottish Council for Development, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Hitrans, Highland Council and Inverness Chamber of Commerce as fears grow that the move will result in a loss of service and a lack of competition.
