Hi Everyone,

I bought two of these Dongles  from China for around 9 Euros each including shipping and have managed to get them working with Planeplotter. I have to say that the performance is better than I expected. Much better than the MicroADSB I paid about 80 Euros for a few years ago, but obviously not as good as my SBS-3 ! Anyway, my question is can you still use the stick to watch TV or use the SDR Radio or would that mess up the config with the Zadig drivers etc ? Thanks for any info and if possible, what else I would need to load. Obviously not expecting to do both at the same time !

IanH

Not tried this since no use for HDTV so YMMV.

If you uninstall the drivers for the dongle, Windows will re-install its own which are probably those required for HDTV.

Alternatively uninstall and then install the drivers from the micro CD that comes with the dongle.

In either case remove the contents of the folder c:\usb_driver to remove the zadig drivers.

Not sure of the long-term effect of changing back and forth!

To use as TV you will have to change drivers every time you decide to use SDR and visaversa, not really practical, also once the TV drivers are installed lots of people are having trouble getting the dongle to work again on the likes of rtl1090.

Thanks for the info guys. I bought them to use on my Netbooks for Planeplotter anyway so I will stick with that.

You can use one of the dongles for sdr and the other for Planeplotter.  There are a few of us who are using three dongles, One for planeplotter, one for sdr for say atc and the last one for acars decoding, as long as each dongle has its own port everything will be fine.

The using one for tv thougis a no no, the drivers become confused and buggers up the system, some people have reported to having to restore the system to an earlier point.

Hi Preston,

Thanks for the info. They work perfectly for Planeplotter. I can get one giving a Mode-S feed and the other giving a Mode-A/C feed. What I haven't managed so far is to use one for SDR. Can you tell me what software you are using please ? All I seem able to get is noise. I can't here anything on frequencies I have tried for radio stations in my area, normal FM (Bayern 3) and airband (MUC Tower).

Easiest to set up in Windows is SDR# http://sdrsharp.com/

If you select the quick installation script from here, it should download required files.

I'm using it for ATC connected to an FM aerial in the roof (used an FM radio station to check it was working).
