The latest versions offer better quality raw data and are also reported to increase coverage , plus of course the other benefits as  listed by Andy in the release notes

But it's still listed as a beta and many will stay clear of those versions.

The beta is a beta, because there is no update of the manual in sight (or not even planned) 
Other than that it is alpha.
