Pilots turn packed passenger jet AROUND to get cancer-stricken girl, 11, and take her to summer camp after she lost passport

An Israeli airline – with the support of everyone on-board – turned around a plane to pick up an 11-year-old cancer patient.

All set to fly to New York August 7 to attend a camp for paediatric cancer patients, Inbar Chomsky, was taken off an El-Al Airlines flight after her passport went missing. Despite a frantic search by airline staff, passengers and the group Chomsky was travelling with, her passport was gone, flight attendants had no choice but to remove the sick girl.

Tears in their eyes, everyone said good bye to the devastated young girl after a half hour search aided by airline staff and passengers failed to turn up the girl's passport, according to Haaretz.

Nice to see that there is still some humanity in this world. Having worked El Al flights as an Aircraft Engineer since 1995 both in the UK and here in Germany, I had always felt that the Crews were pretty arrogant. I will approach them with a more open mind after reading this report.

Reading the article, the aircraft was still on the ground and returned to the gate when the passport was found in another passenger's rucksack.

"Turned aound" does imply it was airborne and en-route to New York!

With so many Islamist terrorist organisations trying to get a chance to kill them, necessitating extreme security measures on their part, perhaps the crews have a right to be arrogant.

Maybe if Israel were to comply with UN Resolutions and stop dropping phosphorus bombs on Palestinians things might be different.

Israel and Palestine have been dropping things on each since time immemorial, sadly I do not envisage that situation changing any time soon. :(

I believe they do stop - every time Hamas stops rocketing their people. The sad truth is that even if Israel never fired another shot they would still be under threat of annihilation by most Arab countries.

As Graham has observed, the sad truth is two wrongs don't make a right.

Mind you, if I were a Palestinian, I might be aggrieved by Israel's illegal occupation of my country and total disregard of UN sanctions.

Hmmm. I really don't think that it  should stretch to talking to the Engineers that maintain their aircraft overseas as if they are some sort of sub-serviant species. We work hard to get the stuff done despite the fact that El Al and Arkia throw aircraft in with no real attempt at anything like a schedule. On top of that they make aircraft changes with no notice so you could be expecting a 737NG and a 744 or 777 turns up. That aside, no one has the "right" to be arrogant to people trying to go about their job. By the way, the on board security guys who are probably military or police don't have this attitude problem. Something to do with professionalism maybe.

Roadrunner

what started of as a nice little story of humanity has turned into a slanging match. Lets get back to the reason for the first post in this thread..........

Well said, can we stick to the original topic of people doing a decent thing for a change please.. :o

I don't regard returning an aircraft to the gate as a "story of humanity".

And if someone introduces a political message I, for one, may post an alternative view.

No rules were broken.

I never suggested either it was a political message or any rules were broken.. i only asked if we could stick to the original topic and happened to agree with Roadrunners view and sentiment and not go down the road of local issues that if the rest of the world cant resolve - then we have even less chance through forum threads..
