Message from Bev at COAA

Hi,

PlanePlotter version 6.4.1.4 is now available for download following
the link on the PlanePlotter web site.

http://www.planeplotter.com#download

---Usual boilerplate---
Updates are free to registered users.

You may need to exercise your browser Refresh function to force it to
show you the new version of the PlanePlotter web page. If you post a
message saying that the web site is still pointing to an earlier
version, you pay a forfeit.

You can install the new version over the old one but you *must*
close/exit PlanePlotter before installing the new one. Your settings
will be preserved. If you post a message saying that the installer is
unable to replace planeplotter.exe, it means that you did not close
PP first and you pay a forfeit.

If you have a version-specific firewall (eg Zone Alarm), you may have
to reassure it that the new version is permitted to access the Internet.
-----------
New in version 6.4.1.4

When initiating Mlats from the "a" window, local data is now included
in the solution.  Previously, it was only included in Mlats initiated
from the View..Aircraft and View..Chart windows.

The symbols "<" ">" characters are removed from registrations and
replaced with "{" "}" to avoid derailing the GoogleMap parser with
bogus XML tags.

The "p" window now displays altitude graphs for both Interested
aircraft and any designated aircraft.  Previously only Interested
aircraft were graphed.

Options..Sharing..Setup now allows you to upload data to multiple
servers.  Previously only one additional server could be
designated.  Note that if you have a very large number of active
aircraft and if you enable sharing to all optional servers, it may
lead to sluggish behaviour, depending on your available computer
resources and the response time of the chosen servers.

Thanks to all those users who have reported infelicities or have
requested new features for this new release.

This would be a good time to wish all readers a very Happy Christmas.

Regards
Bev

Merry Christmas satcom  :)

I've updated and as usual everything is fine, thanks for all the hard work.

Just a small point, I've noticed that a couple of times I've been made aware of PP updates via this forum but there's been no mention on the PP Yahoo! group.

No criticism intended, I love PP and appreciate all the hard work that goes in to providing the service and software.

Cheers,

Keef.

Hi Keef

I copied Bev's note from the Yahoo group , so its there somewhere although I don't have a note of the message number

Keef

OK,

Sorry, I must have missed it.

Happy New Year!

I updated today, all seemed to go well for about half an hour then PP crashed and just wouldn't start, tried instaling earlier version and that wouldn't start either, had to do a system restore to get things going again.

Probably has something to do with this mornings critical w7 update that was done an hour previous as that was the restore point i went back to, will have to do some more investigating as i can't be without the PC as its my weather server pc.

Any ideas welcome.

Do you have it installed in the default folders? I always used to get grief when I did that.

Installed a few days ago under Win 8.1 Pro - no sweat.

It looks like the update may have changed your UAC....had a couple of other similar reports

Is there any reason to upgrate to the new one?
I use PP on my "Server" to collect all Aircraft who fly in my Area and the old PP still work.
In the IT verybody say never chance a running system...  ;D

I life near LOWW / VIE and see Ground Traffic too.

To get the latest features would be one reason to upgrade, but those features might not interest you.

I've never had a problem with PP upgrades, just make sure that PP is NOT running (quit the program) before you install 'over the top' of your existing set-up.

If you get too far behind there might be a chance of being blocked from the sharing server for compatibility reasons, but I think you'd have to hold off upgrading for a very long time before that happened, there's still one person on V6.2.5 sharing.

I like to keep up to date so always upgrade at the earliest opportunity, I appreciate that's not everyone's cup of tea though!

Upgrading to the latest version of PP is easy and I've never experienced any problems.

Possibly the most customer friendly aspect of the product.  ;)

Compared with this opinion, you're restrained. Found it tonight while searching.

Kind of misses the point with the final question being ignored!

I think some of those comments are a bit harsh and unfair on Bev.

PP is a feature rich product with some unique ones too.  I just think it could be better packaged with more usability.  I'm not alone in that view but it's dismissed out-of-hand by the PP crew.  And maybe that's why it gets some unfair comments.

Got a reminder email to upgrade for M-lat reasons etc. so i tried again to update to latest version, This is the 3rd try with 1 and 2 having the same effect but this time all went ok, maybe cos there was another Microsoft update a couple of days ago(to fix what they probably broke  :)  ) all went well this time, 3rd time lucky.  ;)
