AD Data Base compilation

I am using SBS-1ER and Active Display Lite.
Active Display is busy compiling it's information prior to updating my data base.
I am a little confused about where this information is coming from. Am I receiving it over the air or is it coming to me online. Initially I assumed it was being derived from what I had received over the air. However when I started to compare what base station was receiving and what AD was processing there were flights on AD that I couldn't see.

AD displays all data received in the current Basestation "session", including aircraft no longer sending current data.

It's listing all data from the current flight session including aircraft long "gone".

This has always been a point of contention for me.
