SBS-3 short lived

Put my new aerial up yesterday, plugged in the aerial lead and the sma aerial came off the pcb.

Anyone know if it is aas easy as soldiering on a new sma to the pcb?

What coax diameter did you attach to the SBS-3?

Chris Taylor at TMRF may be able to help.  Or just open the SBS-3 and take a look, assuming it's out of warranty?

I did manage to sort out the aerial jack by soldering one from a donor Airnav, it finally had a use.

I am looking to upgrade the aerial cable but do not know what one to purchase, as i'm going over 20 meters.

The cable you used isn't really suitable for 1090MHz, certainly not over long distances.

For a 20m run you will need low loss coax cable, such as Ecoflex 15 or Westflex 103.  Not cheap and very thick.  You should use a short fly lead from the thick coax to the receiver.

I'm not aware of your local situation but you might be better off using WiFi or Ethernet cable from the receiver placed near the antenna to your PC.

I do not get a bad reception with this set up but I am always looking for ways to improve.
