I have had the above scanner for some time and used to program with the BCTools using an RS232 to scanner cable. I want to de some re-programming but have realised the current PC I have does not have any RS232 ports. I have seen USB to RS232 cables available but is there a specific type only that will work or should any such cable allow me to continue using the BCtools program for my UBC800

Thanks in advance

Mike

Thanks for that, just ordered one on ebay.

You may need to install also a Driver for that connection USB >< RS232 .
Possibly in a CD with the cable . Or may there is one in your system, else internet .
After connecting Scanner to desired USB socket, you will have to see what port your system has chosen.
Then check what port your control prog used with the previous RS232 setup.
Make both match.
FYI if your PC system's portnumber offer is greater beyond the choice in your control prog's
settings window you may have to change that in its INI .

Truetrack thanks for that. The device I have selected comes with a driver cd in the package, will look at the other possible problems when I get it all loaded.

Got an RS232-YSB connector and loaded the drivers then connected this to the PC/Scanner and got an "unknown USB device" message. Looking in the Devices section of the PC no details for the device appear listed and my PC appears to be completely ignoring the converter. It has a PL2303 chip. I also get no sign of seeing it on the BCtools configuration page.

Any ideas?

PS I have an HP Pavillion 64bit PC upgraded to windows 10

When you loaded the drivers and software did you reboot ?

Thank you mhm

Yes I rebooted. I have subsequently seen on some American sites that the PL2303 chip does not always work properly on windows devices. At mo speaking to a radio shop that has the latest USB-1 cable suitable for the UBC800XLT which has drivers compatible with W10 and uses a different chip and at £15.00 may be the better long term solution.

Looking on the Prolific website for a PL2303 driver shows it should be compatible with Win10.

But also read the warning about fake chipsets that don't work as expected.

And there is a driver for OSX - no idea about Macs so you will need to decide if it is of use.

Hi all,

I found the following on Ebay - Uniden Bearcat UBC3500XLT & BCT 15X + others PC data programming cable at £15.

I ordered one and as well as getting the cable within a day I also got a link from the seller to a driver that is compatible with Windows 10. I loaded the driver then connected the cable and I am back in business. The site I used listed all the Uniden scanners that the USB-1 data cable would work on. Very pleased.
