This is the first time I've "seen" a USAF C17 transmitting positional data.

Heading east towards Bristol, RCH220.  Hex AE07E8, registration 95-0105.

Interesting.  As this aircraft started heading up the Bristol Channel is stopped transmitting positional data and I could only track it using PiAware MLAT.

Hmmm?

Interesting you should see a C-17. Tonight I was reading some old posts on another forum.

It appears that in time the US fleet of C-17's,KC-135's, KC-10's will be fitted with full ADS-B transponders, that is why there are currently 4 KC-10's that are fully plotting as they have already had new avionics fitted and the others no doubt as they go in for overhauling.
Apparently, it is do with meeting aviation standards when operating in civilian airspace such as transatlantic routings where they are sharing airspace with civilian airliners.

This has news on the subject

Thanks for the link.

I'm seeing many KC10's plotting now but unlike the C17, they've continued plotting over the UK.

It looked like the C17 was plotting across the Atlantic but stopped when entering UK airspace.

I'll keep an eye out for more.
