Message from Bev at COAA:

Hi,

I have added a feature that allows you to configure the sharing system so that it sends you an email alert if PlanePlotter does not access the server for more than a specified interval.

In any recent version of PlanePlotter, select Help..Test networking..Check sharing status. On the updated web page, there is now a set of buttons that allow you to define the interval after which an alert email will be sent to you.

Note that the alert will be sent only once after the specified time and it will go to the registered email address. Not all users have up-to-date registered email addresses.

Note also that the check is performed at 11 minutes past each hour and the timeout refers to the hour in which the last access occurred. Accordingly, the 1 hour timeout will trigger an alert if PlanePlotter stopped any time in the preceding hour ie. more than 11 minutes and less than 71 minutes before the check took place.

The feature is hard to test in a completely general way so please tell me if you encounter any infelicities with it.

Thanks to David T for suggesting this feature.

Further update from Bev at COAA:

Hi

I have extended the inactivity alert feature to include free-standing Raspberry Pi uploaders as well as regular PlanePlotter installations.

If you have an RPi-based uploader (not running through PlanePlotter), the usual RPi monitoring page :

http://www.coaa.co.uk/rpiusers.php?authcode=xxxxxxxxx

where "xxxxxxxxx" is the authentication code of your RPi system, now offers you the option to set an alert time after which an alert email will be sent to the email address associated with that RPi installation.

This should relieve users from the necessity of regularly checking that a remote RPi uploader is working correctly.

Please note that, like the corresponding feature for PlanePlotter, only one email is sent when the specified timeout is reached.
