Modesdeco and OSX El Capitan

I would be very grateful if anyone could let me know whether Modesdeco can work with OSX El Capitan? I have downloaded the TGZ file for Yosemite and cannot open it. I use Modesdeco on a windows laptop but a better sized MacBook is now available to me. I am not familiar with OSX and may be doing something dumb.
