Hello

Wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to troubleshoot my SBS3 please ?

I dont receive tracks anymore from it on Basestation either by ethernet or USB

It had been working fine for years and suddenly just seem to stop receiving data from it

The device powers up (tho dont get the orange light on when in usb mode - cant recall if did previously, tho manual said it should)

The blue lights come on and off frequently (not blinking that is) so seems to be receving 1090 DF's

Any suggestions on what I can do to see whats is happening please ?

thanks
Allan aka TAF

Roadrunner

My SBS3 is currently running and shows
RED power light
GREEN Session active light
ORANGE Ethernet light
BLUE Signal lights (all 4)

Do you get as far as the main map screen, albeit without aircraft present?

If you do, Just after half way across the screen there is a blue Kinetic Globe symbol, then a black image then what looks like a radio knob.
The Black image is a debug system. If you press that what feedback do you get. It should show what the program has done from startup to fully running. Are there any clues there?

Welcome TAF.

What antenna are you using and where is it installed?  Are the connections OK?
Here to Help.

TAF

Hi Guys

Thanks for the responses

Basestation opens up fine, and am just using the standard antenna that came with the SBS3 - maybe not setup perfectly but within 10km of airport and about 2-3km from approach flight path so signal is not an issue

I did see an error in the log file below - assume its some issue with the USB device driver perhaps, but not sure how to resolve - Any suggestions ?

thanks

Thanks.

Have you changed PC or had a recent update?

Go to Control Panel-> System-> Device Manager-> USB

Do you see the Device A and Device B listed?  I can't remember the exact entry as I'm using a network connection not USB.

Try a different USB port on the PC, preferably with a different USB cable.

There's alos a file in the BaseStation folder:

SBS1LinkTester.exe

Close BaseStation, double click the file in Windows Explorer to run the test.  This should show if the USB link is working or not.

TAF, Anmer,

I also note there is a line in the de-bug
D2XX device failed to open
Anmer - could that be the problem?
TAF  - Can you check and see if a FTD2XX.dll file is present in the Basestation folder
Mike
AMENDED

Anmer

Mike, if the ftd2xx.dll is missing, BaseStation shouldn't launch.

Sorry for the changes to my last post. Going cvross eyed looking at what I had written down. :-\

Roadrunner

OK Anmer,

I was just looking for any indications of files not opening in the debug list

Anmer

Sorry Mike, that wasn't meant to be a "put down".  You're on the right track.

I think the log suggests a USB connection issue and the ftd2xx.dll entry is relevant.

Hi Guys

Thanks for your suggestions, I have now got it working !

I realised the last time I used it was on an older laptop using WindowsXP I have a new laptop with WIndows10

I just plugged the SBS3 into the old WinXP ran Basestation on usb connection and got tracks ! So was glad at least it wasnt a hardware fault on the device

Amner when I openned the Device Mgr (in Win10) I see 2 devices under "Other Devices" named as "Kinetic SBS-3 Bevis A" and has no device driver loaded

Not sure why, but when I reran the Basestation install they changed 'eventually' went to "USB Serial Converter A" and "USB Serial Converter B" Dont know why they never installed in the first place. I did copy ftd2xx.dll after install, as i noted i had to do that when installing on WinXP - as dont believe it comes with the Basestation install?

Anyway started Basestation on Win10 and got tracks via USB

Now this confuses me as I thought the ftd2xx.dll is the 'device driver' as isnt it just a com to usb interface to communicate to the SBS3

BTW This is what I got before and after when run SBS1LinkTester

Starting test, attempting to open USB link...
Opening USB link: BaudRate = 921600; USBTypeAutoDetectOverrideDesc = ""; USBTypeAutoDetectOverrideComPort = 0

Thanks again

Great, you got it working.

The USB drivers are installed when BaseStation is first setup.  You did this as you described on the new Win10 PC.

You can force the install using the file:

CDM20814_Setup.exe

In the BaseStation folder,

Glad all is working now.
