Title: SBS3 has died - where to next?
Post by: skippyinspace on January 21, 2020, 12:50:49 PM
My SBS3 has had its 1080 socket snapped off, So it looks like its time to replace it. What are the current cheap options for something that can output to 4 monitors, Ship plotter, Planeplotter, combiplotter, that does AIS, Mode-s, Acars.  Happy to play with a pi but haven't been too successful with pi projects. Thanks Ian

Maybe call Chris Taylor at Moonraker.  He may be able to offer you a quote to repair the SBS-3?

The SBS3 is on its way to moonraker tomorrow and they are going to have a look, but still interested in what the current options are.

Thanks again

The cheapest alternative is a DVB-T receiver connected to a Raspberry Pi.  You can run PP off it.

Using ModeSMixer you can use it to run BaseStation as well.  Not sure about the other, non-Aviation options.  You will have to explore and experiment.  Or wait for the SBS-3 to be repaired.
