I've had a RTL2838UHIDIR  stick for many years now, I recently bought a new laptop and all was good for months. Just tried to start up Modesdeco2 and I get 'Device: 1 already in use)' and below that 'Can't open device: sdr_open(): Bad file descriptor'. The drivers on the new laptop were set up using Zadig and worked for months.

I started up the stick on my old laptop and it works fine.

Can anyone give me some advice (hopefully in relatively simple language as my computer skills are average at best)?

Windows 10 laptop.

Thanks in anticipation,

Bill

IanH

The error is because Windows drivers are using the dongle.

You need to install Zadig (https://zadig.akeo.ie/) to release them so modesdeco2 can use the dongle.

See post here and just read final paragraph

Thanks IanH.

My reading of the initial message was the "new laptop" has Zadig drivers installed and worked OK "for months".

Looks like something changed?  Maybe a Windows update and the Zadig drivers need to be installed once again?

Shakey01

Thanks for your help gentlemen, I have reinstalled the Zadig drivers a number of times when a Windows update has (I assume) overwritten the driver that works although I can't recall whether I've done that with my new laptop (I only use it when I go the the local airport as I have an SBS running at home and C19 has severely limited flights and thus I have not bothered taking the laptop). This time it just doesn't seem to work. I've re-installed the driver via Zadig and still get the same message. When I go back to Zadig the drivers in the 2 boxes on the Zadig screen are the same so I would assume the driver installation worked.

I tried a different USB port yesterday, do you think I should try that again?

Appreciate your help

Anmer

Have you tried a different USB cable?

The stick still works with my old laptop so I assumed it was something to do with the configuration, or a change in configuration,  of the new laptop (it did use to work with the new laptop).

I did try another USB port but with the same result.

Thanks

Anmer

Sorry, I didn't appreciate the device was directly connected to your USB port.

To recap, the DVB device has worked with the new laptop and the suddenly stopped?  It still works with the old laptop,

Maybe try a fresh install of Modesdeco2?

Someone on Reddit suggested this as an alternative if Zadig doesn't work. YMMV

Thanks Ian, tried it but it's still doing the same thing.

Appreciate all the suggestions.

A question for Anmer, with apologies for maybe not understanding something that might be obvious to many. When you write 'a fresh install' do you mean delete the existing ModeSDeco folder and replace it?

Thanks

Anmer

I don't use ModeSDeco but would suggest you try a fresh "install".  Start again.
