Title: Dirty tricks
Post by: viking9 on February 04, 2012, 11:05:11 AM
I received this email from Bev at COAA this morning:

To all group members

I have received one or two complaints that email addresses used exclusively within this group, have been targetted with publicity from a US-based supplier of Mode-S and AIS receivers.

In the unlikely event that anyone thought otherwise, this has not been done with my approval. It is a characteristic of these user groups that anyone who signs up to receive group emails is able to harvest the email addresses of those who post messages to the group. It is possible that this has happened in this case.

I regret that the company concerned has used this technique but there is nothing that I can do about it.

As previously, I will keep my views about the veracity or otherwise of the claims made by the company in the mailshot, to myself.

Now what US based company supplies both Mode-S and AIS receivers...?

Tom

I'm scouring the Web to make absolutely sure there isn't another one before I point the finger as I haven't had a direct mail myself.  ;)

Might be more helpful to our members if you changed your User Name to Kinetic Chris?

I wondered if Chris was that Chris - but checking his profile and the location being Watford - it couldn't be anyone else – could it?

Great to see you here Chris - welcome.
