Post by: corsa on February 04, 2012, 12:09:12 PM
It is rumoured  in our local paper ( Ealing Gazette) that there is a possibilty RAF Northolt being sold off and become a hub for heathrow

The MOD would not confirm or deny the rumours when asked other than state that they are keeping all options open, they also say that
airfield does generate income from buisness aviation

Slow news day for the Gazette!

The same rumour was doing the rounds when I ran the engineering there in the 1980s and beyond. Northolt is an important facility (not just as an airfield) and I cannot see it being disposed of for sheer commercial reasons.

It has always been limited in the number of movements per 24 hour period and I cannot really see the locals letting it become a hub for Heathrow, with the inevitable increase in movements that would bring, without huge opposition.
