Title: Airframes.org
Post by: skelly737 on November 10, 2021, 05:34:21 PM
Hi, With the recent demise of Airframes.org is there any alternative for populating my SBS database, other than going on other FR24, Planefinder & ADSB to identify new contacts ?

Airframes was often missing aircraft or had out-of-date data.

I used a combination of FR24, FlightAware and country specific registers to fill in gaps or check for current details.  I'm doing the same now, albeit more frequently.

Still no replies from Ralf at Airframes!

Use my SQB, which is updated monthly and super easy to use!   8)

For individual look-ups I also use Blackswan.ch (https://blackswan.ch/aircraft). Very much up-to-date.

Must say, tried a few unknown & known hits and the response was a positive one..
Thanks for the share..

I've modified my basestation.xml file to change the airframes.org link to one for blackswan.ch and used the Mode-S code as the lookup rather than the registration.

Original airframes entry:

<a href="http://www.airframes.org/reg/{translate(//regdata/registration,'ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ','abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz')}" target="new">
                    <span class="entrycaption">Airframes.org : <xsl:apply-templates select="//regdata/registration"/></span></a>

Replaced with:

<a href="https://blackswan.ch/detail/{//transmission/modes}" target="new">
                    <span class="entrycaption">blackswan.ch : <xsl:apply-templates select="//transmission/modes"/></span></a>

Seems to work OK for me, might be of use to others?
Always make a backup copy before making any changes.

Do you mean Basestation.xsl file?

Hi Keef, Is there any way to open the URL in Chrome instead of Microsft EDGE? I don't have EDGE on my Win11 and use Chrome as a default browser. If you know any way to open it in Chrome that would be great.

Thanks for the tip to add this in the XSL file.

Hi Pipo,

Sorry but I haven't found a way to get links from the Aircraft Details window to open in anything other than (in my case) Internet Explorer.

If anyone knows of a way I'd be interested in hearing it!

I set up a similar link for adsbexchange but that doesn't work in IE so that was a fail.

I was also looking on if it is possible mayeb to add a extension in Chrome but it looks like it is hard and closed up by Microsoft. So if anyone find a sollution that would be great.

Famamir and me made this now in Aircraft Details, as you can see a extra table with Internet and then the url from blackswan.ch:

The popup Aircraft Details window uses IE/Edge by default and not any other browser.  Hard coded into BaseStation.

My SBS-1 is a standalone (never been on-line) so I am always manually inputting new information. I use a combination of Planespotters.net (which is great for serial numbers, etc and also doing deletions as it tracks the entire history of the aircraft through different registrations) and also ADS-B Exchange ( I have it centred on my house, the same as my SBS-1) and find it better than FR24 to find new info on a new aircraft around me that pops up on my Radar screen.
