Title: SBS-1 blue lights
Post by: Magic440 on June 22, 2022, 11:30:37 AM
Just recently i have noticed the blue lights on the original sbs-1 just vanish.
It will go from 4 to zero and just stay like that. There is no shortage of aircraft as it shows the red, orange and 4 blue lights. When i launch Basestation, the green light comes on,but the blues vanish.I'm hoping its just a cable issue? Have tried different ports to no avail.
Anyone had this problem before? The aerial seems to be ok.

When the SBS is powered you see 4 blue lights?  And they stay illuminated?

But as soon as you launch Basestation the blue lights go out?

Thanks.

When you say it doesn't want to work, what are you experiencing?

I'm having to go out now so may not reply for a few hours.

When i launch Basestation,it runs fine for a minute or two, then nothing.Even though it says it's connected, all the blue lights vanish.Closing basestation and unplugging the usb port, then starting again, its fine for so long, but then drops again.Lack of aircraft isn't a problem.

How are you connecting to the SBS?  Ethernet or USB?

USB Mike.Tried different ports, but still the same end result.
I've also tried it without starting basestation. At 1st red, orange and 4 blue lights showing. Then when i went back later,no blues at all.I haven't a spare cable with me,but hoping thats all it is.

So you "lose" blue lights even when Basestation isn't running?  If you do, it's either the antenna, cable, bad connection or combination.  Or the SBS-1 has a fault.

Do you have a different antenna you can use to test?

I've another cable and same result. I'm on a campsite so no other aerials I'm afraid. Slough it has been running faultless for the 5hr. Will try another aerial when I get home. Thanks for help Mike.
Will let you know what it's like next week.

Just a thought -  and sorry to intervene on this. You state you are on a campsite. How are you powering the SBS-1? Is it getting enough power?

It's been a lot cooler today than previous days.Could it have over heated perhaps?

I am also on a campsite with sbs-1 and had no issues.
Are you in a tent ? I only ask as with the weather weve had it is possible it got a little to warm in the tent, Also check your USB port drivers are up to date,

Regards.

Slightly OT, but apropos the blue lights, I remember reading somewhere a very long time ago the number of messages/second that were being processed by the SBS when 1/2/3/4 lights were illuminated.

Needless to say, I can't find where I put that information - does anyone recall what the numbers were ?

I'm in a caravan, although when i'm away from the site, the windows are closed,it does get warm in there.
Had no problems for the past 18hr or so.

Can't remember seeing that info.

Probably buried in a post on the now defunct Kinetic Forum.

Hi Dave,

I had the same sort of problem a few years back that the caravan got rather hot inside, and while away the sbs lights used to go off and no signal.
Then checking the sbs box it was rather hot.
Once it was cooled down it all seem to work.

Update,no problems for the past 48hr,so hopefully all is well. The problems did start on the 2 hottest days of last week as well.Nevver thought to check the box,to see if it was warm.
Thanks to all.
