Title: Changing to a Ethernet Cat6 cable to
Post by: Falcon200EX on September 18, 2025, 09:16:43 PM
Hi, I'm moving my SBS-3 to a different position which will require changing the 10 metres of existing cat5 cable. The new position will use around 15 metres of new cable and wondered if I could use cat6 instead of cat5.

Many thanks

Mike

I think you can use Cat6.  Higher bandwidth (and cost) than Cat5.  Otherwise compatible, from what I can see. But you're unlikely to see any difference in SBS performance.

I did use Cat6 cable in the end and all is working well. I also experimented with using the Wi Fi range extenders one plugged in near to the router and the other plugged in near to the Basestation but this failed to work. I thought there was a way of not having to use an ethernet cable but obviously not.
After 2 months of the Basestation being packed away in a box during our house move it's good to have it back up and runnimg again.

Many thanks
Mike

Thanks for the update.

In the past I've successfully used range extenders with the SBS and BaseStation.
