Title: COAA > PlanePlotter > Log files question. Disk Space Issue.
Post by: paulspot on July 29, 2026, 09:51:53 AM
Morning All,

I have discovered using Wiztree that I have many "SBS32xxxxxxx" text files taking up 200GB, yes 200GB! Of space on my HD, which is now running low on space. They are all in the following folder:

COAA > PlanePlotter > Log files

Can I safely delete these files? If so, can I delete them all? Do I need to save only the most recent?

I also have many "RTLxxxxxxxx" text files taking up a similar amount of space. Can I safely delete these?

Is there way of preventing such a build up of GB of data in the future, or do I need to keep just the most recent of each?

Any help most appreciated.

Paul

Hi Anmer, hope you are well.

The big files wont open as they are too large for notepad! This is a copy and paste of a smaller one:

Anmer,

After some googling, I found this:

"Log files

Depending on the type of receiver, PlanePlotter may offer two or three different log file formats. Each one will add something to the processing load so turning them off, if you don't need them, will reduce the load somewhat. I often smile when people complain about massive log files that they did not want, when turning them off is one click. Options..I/O settings and File..Report..Setup."

I think they are all just superfluous log files that I don't need. Though some confirmation would be nice.

Thanks. I woke up again this morning so all's well  ;)

Looks like the txt file is recording unknown hex codes.

I think you can safely delete them.  But to be safe, I'd create a new folder somewhere and name it "Old PP Log Files" and move them there.  If PP then operates OK without them in the existing Log Files folder, delete them and the new folder.

Hi Anmer,

I was 99% sure they were old PP Log Files, so deleted all apart from the 2026 files. PP and BS working 100% fine.

I've managed to recover 380GB of space! I know the PP guys will laugh, but I'm a busy family man and time is at a premium so it's always hard to keep up  :)

Thank you.

Do you ever look at the log files?  If not, can you turn them off in PP?

They were all just comprehensive log files for each session.

I've turned the option off in I/O settings. No more issues.
