Hi shakysen

I can recommend the antenna. I built mine in October 2010 and remarkably it's still on the roof! Performance-wise I didn't start with a particularly good situation and location - the "standard" SBS-1 magmount as supplied, and temporarily stood on the window ledge. Although fairly adjacent to the extended approach to Stansted we are also in a bit of a dip, with raised ground to the North. With the magmount I was receiving typically only 10 positional aircraft at any one time. Range would have typically been 80 miles on a good day in the right direction.
However, with the "new" homemade one mounted on the chimney and fed by standard satellite cable my range can now be up to 200 miles and I am typically receiving 75 or more aircraft, sometimes 100+.
OK so it's not directly comparable internal and external-wise, but bearing in mind we are in a bungalow so the height gain with the new one is not that great, I would say go for it - I've been well pleased with the improvement, it's been weatherproof under it's plastic pipe protection and I still have my original magmount antenna available for mobile use. It may not be optimally fed ref special cable etc. but it works for me!
