Title: Liverpool airport accused of 'trapping' motorists slapped with fines

Motorists who stop for as little as a few seconds on a private road in Liverpool are being hit with cash penalties for "breach of contract".

Liverpool John Lennon Airport chiefs are being accused of "entrapment" in demanding money from motorists who stop on the stretch road owned by the airport operators.

Unlike many other airports Liverpool does not operate an open zone for drivers dropping-off passengers heading for a flight.

Instead the airport requires drivers to collect parking ticket and allows them just five minutes to drive-in, unload bid farewell to travellers. After that there is a charge.

But some drivers had been avoiding the system by droppng-off passengers on Speke Hall Avenue - the only airport approach road.

Now a one mile stretch of that road has been designated as a "No Stopping" zone, enforced with roadside signs, peppered with small print.
