I have a problem that has started occurring with my Netgear Bridge and my PC which is sending spurious data to my local copy of PlanePlotter.
This does not happen when I run using USB.
Problem is PC and SBS3 are in adjacent rooms and I think I have three possibilities.
1. Can I use the 2 way cable at the SBS-3 end with an extension USB cable to the PC and the other USB link remain powered via an Ipod USB power supply?
2. Use a USB cable between the SBS-3 and PC without the additional power supply connecttion (hoswever I do use ACARS on the SDR)?
3. Connect the SBS-3 via ethernet direct to the PC but do I use a normal cable or must it be a crossover cable?
Personnally I prefer 3 if it will work.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
Standard Ethernet cable, not crossover.

Really?
My SBS-3 is connected directly to my PC via a crossover cable. As far as I am aware a crossover cable is required to connect the box directly to the PC; a standard cable is used to connect to a router.
Ready (as always) to be corrected!
Sorry, I was too quick off the mark with an incorrect response.
I should read the question more carefully. I assumed, wrongly, that it was connected to the router.
Apologies Mike and thanks Rob.
Cheers Mike.
It depends on the computer I tried earlier today with an SBS-3 straight into my net book and standard cable worked I guess it depends on the computer. Modern ones I believe don't care
Regards
Just plugged a straight cable into my PC/SBS3 and getting no connection. Do I have to change any settings in thE SETTINGS Data settings or hardware settings or could it just be my Zoostorm windows 7 64 bit pc (only a year old) needs a crossover
I'm not aware of any settings that can be changed to improve the situation. I suggest that you try a crossover cable which works perfectly in my setup.
Rob,
I assume the standard ethernet setting of 192.168.2.170 stays the same as with port 10001 in Non volatile memory settings and the data source is still Network.?
Mike
Mike,
You shouldn't have to change anything, other than to plug in the crossover cable.
For the record my box uses the default IP address 192.168.1.170 port 10001 but, as long as your SBS IP address is compatible with the address range of your PC you shouldn't encounter any problems.
Have you changed the Data Source in Basestation to "Use Network"?
Hi there,
I am getting a main socket error 192.168.2.170:1001(10060) message and it then tries again after a few moments. It is the same with either straight or crossover.
Works OK still if I go back to bridge connection
Mike when you have the SBS-connected via ethernet
Go to Windows Start then in the search box type CMD and select the command box
type IP config and it will confirm your computers IP address (Some thing like IPV4 adress 192.168.2.111 then there will be another default gate way below it. Ignore the default gateway)
Then connect to the SBS-3 by USB and put it in the same range (If the PC is 192.168.2.xxx set yur SBS to 192.168.2.170 those first three define the range)
If that fails you are only half hour down the A1 drop in and I can look at it.

I borrowed a very long ethernet cable from my son in law and plugged my sbs3 directly into the router and all was up and running within seconds. Only problem I cant have a wire through lounge and up the stairs for months. When I try the same process direct from SBS3 to PC using either a straight or crossover cable I get nothing appear in base station (says not connected) or anything on PP. I reverted to my normal set up via Netgear bridge yesterday afternoon and I got no duplicates at all for the remainder of the day. As I am going to be moving all my gear in about 3 months time I think I will live have to live with the problem until then when I will have the router and SBS3 next to each other.
Mike
Mike can you not put the SBS next to the router and connect your PC wirelessly?
I suspect the answer is how you PC is set up for IP configuration but difficult to guess

Unfortunately my router is in the lounge and my PC/SBS3 are in a spare bedroom - my den, until August when last daughter moves out and I get her larger bedroom which has a connecting point for the router - then everything will be in the same room. I am beginning to think that the ethernet connector on my PC is not working.
