I have been running my SBS1 for a number of years under various operating systems without any problems, however I've recently began to experience drop outs. I'm still connected to Basestation, however after various time scales, I begin to loose all contacts. I'm running the latest SBS1 software under Windows 7. It has run fine under Windows 7, so I can't understand what the issue could be. I have tried a system restore, Uninstalling and reinstalling Basestation and sometimes this works, however, once again, I eventually loose all contacts. Before I forget, I have tried different USB cables and aerials, all to no avail. Has anyone out there any ideas or suggestions before I chuck the sodding thing in the bin ?

Are you using a desktop or laptop PC?
Is the USB cable connected direct or via a hub?
I'm using a Dell Insperon Laptop with a 2g dual core process & 3g RAM. Running Windows 7 32 bit operating system with Service Pack 1. I've tried running it on my Packard Bell PC with roughly the same speck, with the same issues. I'm currently running SBS with a very basic set up and it's been fine for the last 20 minutes or so, but it's very hit and missy.
I had issues with the USB side of Windows 7 (64bit).
I now plug into a USB 3 Powered hub by itself and then run USB RJ45 extension connections 20 meters to my computer room into another Powered hub and it then connects into my computer and it works fine.
If I don't have it pluged into the powered hub at the other end of the house I find the USB drops off every now and then.

Is the laptop running off the battery or mains power?
Have you checked the power settings for sleep or hibernation?
Without powered hubs, the voltage drop across a long run of USB cable is going to cause loss of connectivity.
If it maintains connectivity with powered hubs but fails without them, that suggests it is not the PC or the SBS-1 at fault.
Thanks guys. I was beginning to lean towards the USB power issue and the previous post has possibly confirmed my suspicion. Will try and pick up a powered USB hub sometime this week. ;)

Just a quick update. I have since discovered that my anti-virus software ( Microsoft Security Essentials ) has possibly been the culprit. I have removed it and replaced it with another program and all seems to be well.

Strange that Essentials was to blame. But if it's working OK now, that's the main thing.
