Title: A reply from Collin White (FlightAware) about "Today"
Post by: alpey on October 28, 2013, 06:49:10 PM
Hi all

From Collin White (FlightAware) Oct 28 11:19 am (CDT) ...Alain,If it says today vs. live, that means we have not seen a position in a few hours, but have had positions within the last 24 hours. Aircraft seen should update as more positions are received from unique aircraft.

Hi Alain,

There is a discussion on the FA forum regarding this today/ live situation and they seem to recognize there is a problem , but they don't know whether the problem is with PP or FA

I'm feeding FlightAware via PP and have been switching off at night. The reaction to my switching on/off is almost instantaneous.

I do the same Tom, but I get a burst of data going to FA which usually is about 40 aircraft out of 150 then for the rest of the day it switches back from Live to today and doesn't wake up until the evening.

Very strange, Ian. Is your internet connection via a proxy server?

Hi Tom Hi Ian

Here each day at about 23 H (local time) switch from "Today to live"  but the following morning (generally after 8 H) "Live to Today" that for all the day...then start a new cycle during the next night........ (observed during a week).

I have posted a message on the PP forum to see if the problem can be tracked down to FA or PP

Just for the record. I shut down about 2230 last night. This morning I checked FA and it showed 'Today'.

Within 20 mins of starting PP it showed 'Live' as it always has done.

This is not a complete fix, but should help those that continue to show 'Today' remain 'Live'
When Flightaware is showing 'Today' go into Planeplotter and untick 'upload positionless data' and Ok

Without having to restart PP continuously my Stats went from about 1100 per day to 2600 yesterday, still not perfect but a step in the right direction.

Just looking at the FA data page , there are now over 200 PP users sharing with them...less than10% are showing "today"

That tells me that either the prob is with the individuals or FA.

Swithing off "upload positionless" will not solve the problem long term and only result in you being turned off as GS/MU on the PP network as raw data will stop.

I'm sure both Bev and FA are looking into this...best leave it to them and await instructions.

Ok John, turned it back on but now FA will not receive my data
Not heard anymore from Bev since I posted on the PP forum last week

Hi John......... do not forget to subtract the 58 who stopped to upload, this is changing, I think, the percentage of "Today"
