Title: Alerts
Post by: Breitling on February 02, 2014, 10:20:41 AM
I'm not familiar with alerts setup on PP. I want to do something like following:

- Each time an aircraft type = "R22" is detected, send me an email alert.

Is it possible?  How?

Thanks.

Options..Chart..SMS Alerts

Options..Chart..SMS Alerts

This option allows you to configure your use of SMS Text Message Alerts.

This feature is only available to registered users.

Complete the details in the web page that opens to tell the system the mobile phone number to which the alerts will be sent, and to check/purchase your message credits.

Once you have configured the SMS Alerts, then you can enable the option in Options..Chart..Options, in the Alert section.

Very important
When you enable SMS alerts in PlanePlotter, the system will send you a text messages for every alert generated in accordance with your PlanePlotter alert settings. If you configure PP to generate a large number of alerts, you may use up your credit of text messages very quickly. Make sure that you only enable the SMS alert feature in PlanePlotter, when you want it to send you text messages and you are sure that the number of alerts will not be excessive.

Who is charging for these alert "credits"?

You mentioned 'email' if you meant email and not SMS then you could try Curt Deegan's TellMe add-on - it should be in the file section of the PP yahoo group, if you are not a member, drop me a PM with your email address and I'll send you a copy.

With this you can use "blat" a free email package that, when correctly configured, allows you to send an email (alert) to nominated email addresses.

I have not used this feature myself, but I have used TellMe to alert on screen - it worked very well but does require a bit of configuration.

Cheers,

Tim

Yes, I meant email. I'm PP Yahoo group member, so I'll give 'TellMe' and 'Blat' a try. Sure will need some help, thanks Tim.

Anyway the SMS alert sounds interesting too, but as long as it would involve some cost I want to make clear some aspects:

- Who is giving credit for this service?  COAA?  Which rate?
- Now I see my first test alert: a red window with the aircraft matching the rule(s) and a counting timestamp. What is considered an alert: a single line in that window? Or each and every time occurrence (once every 3 seconds)?

Hey
I was update the original TellMe.
Just replace the original file.

And replace in the TellMe.ini
; Default setting of NoPos option:
NoPos = True

; Default setting of logfile option:
LogFile = True

; Log by Alert Description:
LogSplit = True

It is somewhat disrespectful to the author that you have modified his code without documenting those changes and also without adding any information about yourself to identify that this is a hacked version and not the original.

May I suggest that this debate is either taken offline or concluded (stopped).

Otherwise I can see this thread becoming overheated and won't add any value.

There's an unanswered question about PP alerts. Anyone please?
