Title: Message Filtering...
Post by: APO1972 on March 07, 2014, 02:37:45 PM
Hello to all,
I'm wondering if the options in menu "Data Settings" ,can make any difference in the reception of the old devices(SBS-1e & SBS-1er).
With the newer SBS-3 ans SBS Puck what will be the difference?(decoding MODE a/c/s ,ADS-R ,TIS-B)
Also , are there TIS-B and ADS-R messages in Europe?
I have an SBS-1 MKI and i saw latelly , a lot of aircrafts only with MODE-S that sends their Call signs,Squawks and the current altitudes.

Thanks a lot

There's no TIS-B in Europe and ADS-R doesn't apply outside the USA.

So...the only things remain are MODE A/C...what will be the benefit if i bought for example an SBS PUCK?
Will the aircrafts with only MODE A/C show up in list to the right???(CALL SIGN,REGISTRATION,SQUAWK AND ALTITUDE)

No they will not.

The BaseStation "aircraft list" only lists those transmitting Mode-S data on 1090 MHz.

So , if i understood well...I will not have any benefit if i purchased the new SBS PUCK(and not SBS-3 because i don't care about AIS and SDR),or the olders SBS-1e,er.
My SBS-1 MKI doing its job very well! ;D
Thank you very much , because you solved my questions very quickly!

The Puck uses the same Mode-S "receiver" as the SBS-3.

The Puck may decode a few more messages that the older SBS-1 model range.

The main advantage is the Puck's small "footprint" and low price compared to the SBS-3.

If you have a working SBS-1, 1e or 1eR, there's not much benefit in buying a Mode-S Puck.

But that's just my personal opinion.

But why SBS PUCK or SBS-3 can't decode MODE A/C...i red that on the internet site "http://www.airsport-corp.com/modec.htm" for the aircrafts transponder : a) the interrogation pulses "ask" from Radar are transmitted on 1030 Mhz and b) the output of the transponder "reply"  is on the frequency of 1090 Mhz...

From the user manual (with acknowlegement to Kinetic):

Relay Mode A/C Messages: SBS-3, 1090 Puck
This checkbox enables output of Mode A and C data on BaseStation's raw data output over Ethernet (port 30006). BaseStation does not currently use Mode A/C messages itself but they can be used by third party applications connecting to this port. Enabling this option will increase data bandwidth significantly.
