Title: VRS Europe
Post by: jonfear on April 27, 2014, 01:25:28 PM
Hi Everyone

Just popped in to mention the website I am trying to grow, www.vrs-europe.eu.

I am an amateur along with all the other current feeders. I have recently stopped hosting this at home and have moved it to a central server with better bandwidth. I am the only person funding this, I do not represent any organization. If any donations come in, they will be used to pay for the server. Anything over what is needed will be saved and used to increase capacity on the server. At the moment I have 5TB of bandwidth a month to use! It is only the CPU and Memory that will need to be increased.

My aim is to provide amateur coverage for the whole of Europe, using Virtual Radar Server as the base. All amateur users, providing data to a website that is open source and free. No one will be charged and no data will be sold nor will it be shared. If you want to share your data, that is handled from your own system. If you want to stop feeding, that's up to you. No agreements, no stress just keep it simple, mostly for my sanity. All I ask is that if you are sharing from your own VRS server, you are fully up-to-date and use the compressed VRS format. I do monitor the data being provided and if there is an issue, will contact the provider. There is always a solution.

I hope everyone will at least take a look, and if possible help make this work. Even if you are in an area where coverage appears to be good, please contact me, I will always add data to the system, you may have something available that is not actually there yet!

If you want to help PM me and we will sort out the details.

Many thanks for looking

Jon

All

I would like to announce that we have now have permission to share the ADSB Hub feed on the VRS europe web site.

It has not been included into our merged feed as I wish them to be seen as the contributions from the individual contributors.

All you have to do to see the feed is select the ADSB Hub Feed from the menu.

Many thanks to Mark for the permissions.

If anyone want to provide their individual feed to vrs-europe, just drop me a line...

Enjoy!

Jon

Jon,

Thanks for the information, I do have VRS installed but don't run it all that often.
That's not because I don't like it, I do, but I've never thought it had any value to a wider community, looks like I was wrong!

With the info you've posted I'll have a rethink, but it's a bit late now to do much...

Sharing is good and my thanks go out to you and all involved in making the VRS software available.

Cheers,

Keef.

Thanks Jon

Can I check if the sharing is only one-way?  Can choose to only display the ADSBHub data on our VRS or is our data uploaded  to ADSBHub?

I have VRS running 24h and I'd like to contribute, but..... my feed is from a FR24 box, so I can't do it.

I have plans to install dongles at the same places than my FR24 boxes, to feed PP network now that MLAT is possible, and eventually feed to VRS-Europe.

All

Many thanks for the replies.

@Keef: More than welcome aboard whenever you choose, even if it is only for a short time. You would be under no obligation to provide the feed, this is a hobby thing!

@Anmer: Mike, I feed my "WSLWx feed" directly to ADSB Hub as do many of the contributors. That is then included in the ADSB Feed coming back to vrs-e, hence the reason for not combining the ADSB hub data with our collected data. There could be timing issues etc. I also do not want people to think that the ADSB Hub data is contributed directly to us by many people, the attribution is clearly ADSB Hub. That is how I wanted it. This was discussed with Mark Daniels prior to launch and he is also happy.

EDIT: I guess what I am saying is that vrs-e has given ADSB Hub a way of publicly visualising their data....

@Breitling: That sounds very interesting! Keep me informed of your progress. If I can help with anything let me know. It is pretty exciting news with regard to MLAT and Dump1090 vs PP. Outstanding work been done there. I hope there will be additional improvements over the next few months.

Best wishes

Jon

Good morning everyone

I am pleased to announce that we have added another feed to the VRS-Europe server.

I would like to welcome SteveW aboard, he is in the Manchester area and fills an significant gap in our coverage.

As usual, if anyone wants to provide their individual feed to vrs-europe, just drop me a line at info @ vrs-europe.eu

Best wishes
