Title: Airframes.org lookup error
Post by: Keef on August 26, 2014, 05:36:18 PM
Not I function I use normally, but having read about it not working I thought I'd try it, and sure enough I got the error attached:

Looking at the vb script the line:

MyForm.icao24.Value (lower case o)

does not match the element in the airframes.org form which is:

<input type="Text" name="ica024" value=""> (numeric 0)

As the vb script is re-generated from within the executable for each new lookup it is not possible to modify lookup.vbs to correct this, it will be overwritten with each new lookup.
To test this I temporarily modified planeplotter.exe (changed relevant hex value 6F to 30) and ran it. The lookup worked fine with no errors.

I dislike using Yahoo! groups (not just PP, any Yahoo! group) so I never go there any more but thought I'd post here in case Satcom sees this and can assist in getting it addressed.

It does seem odd that airframes use "ica024", I'd have thought "icao24" would be a more logical choice, so I would guess a change at airframes has broken it rather than a change in PP, but as I say that's just a guess...

Anyway, regardless of which one is 'right', if the names don't match it ain't gonna work.

Satcom:
Just for info, I only tried my 'hacked' version of PP for a minute or so as it probably (more likely certainly!) breaches some terms and conditions and I won't use it again.
Hope you don't mind me taking that small liberty...

Cheers,

Keef.

From Bev earlier after I mentioned your discovery earlier:

"It is a "Forth Bridge" job trying to accommodate
the changes that Airframes keep making to their web page.

Since the interface deliberately opens the web
page to view so that they legitimately get their
commission for page views, it is puzzling that
the task is constantly frustrated by apparently random changes.

I will issue a new version when I get a minute.

From Bev earlier after I mentioned your discovery earlier:

And PP charges a licence fee that probably generates much more revenue than Airframes advertising.

Either the Airframes interface is a supported PP option or it's not.

And you have evidence to justify that statement Mike ?

BTW  Keef if you would like to update your legitimate version to the latest sw  you should find
the look up works again  ;)

No I don't which is why I used the word "probably".

But I'm happy to put a wager on it if each party is willing to provide audited statements of revenue and source.

New version of PP 6.4.2.2 is available and is supposed to fix the error. Unfortunately it doesn't and I am still seeing the same error as above, showing MyForm.icao24.Value (lower case o)

Ah well, I'll just carry on using it manually, as I have done for years  ???

Updated to 6.4.2.2 and lookups are working again.

Tim, are you still getting exactly the same error about line 16 in lookup.vbs?
There is a note in the help file about IE security settings perhaps causing a problem:

"If you see an error message when you attempt a Look Up, it is probably caused by a security setting in Internet Explorer. In IE, select Tools, Internet Options, Security, Trusted sites, Sites, type "http.//www.airframes.org" and click on Add. That will tell Internet Explorer to allow the script to control the Look Up web page."

Thanks for fixing it chaps.

Cheers,

Keef.

Hi Keef,

I was doing a look-up from the floating aircraft list (lower case a) window. That gave me exactly the same error as before - it's been mentioned on the PP group that using this method results in the error. However, using the Aircraft Position Report from the main display works, as does right clicking from the Aircraft Window (Plane Icon).

Unfortunately, not for me. I made the modification you describe to indicate Airframes is a trusted site (thought I had done that but maybe that was before the last OS re-install) and now I get the attached.

The Airframes web site opens OK, it's just not populated with anything due to the script error (obviously).

It's not a major deal for me so unless it is something really obvious I won't lose any sleep over it.

I wrote a post but have deleted the text replaced it with this one!

Just noticed a new version 6.4.2.3 which fixes the lookup from the 'a' window.

Thanks to all for fixing it.

Cheers,

Keef.

But it still doesn't work for me, not to worry, I won't mention it again.

That's strange Tim,

Might be worth chucking another install of 6.4.2.3 at your machine to see if it sticks a second time around?
PP installs seem pretty solid to me so it's unlikely to make a difference, but I can't think why your install would not have the fix when mine does.

Keef.
