Hi i have had a GNS 5890 for a couple of years now, i have just replaced my laptop for a newer mkdle as last one packed up, i managed to get the GNS 5890 to istall last week, then i had an issue with windows 8.1 and desktop photo, so my wife reset the laptop, this has caused a few major and lots of minor issues, the main one for me being that i now cant get the GNS 5890 to run, the software and drivwers install ok, but as soon as you come to select com port it comes up with this message,

"fehler beim lesen von combo1.comproperty; registry error (win error code 2)

can any body please help me resolve this issue

Check the COM port assigned in Control Panel (or whatever it is in Win 8 ) and make sure you have set the same one in GNS?

Well if you got the GNS5890 to install last week that's a start.

Googling the error, I get http://www.blog-ads-b.gns-gmbh.com/?p=29

and the response is " we don't have a driver for Win8".

But I got a MicroADSB working recently with Win8 and I thought that was basically the same thing.

So try Anmer's suggestion of finding out which COM port. Control Panel seems to be in the menu that pops up from right clicking the start button in Win8.1

You do not want to load the bootloader which gives that error message- you need to load the drivers.
