Title: Missing bookmarks bar
Post by: Roadrunner on November 20, 2014, 07:04:15 PM
I have a problem that has started in the last day or so. I have an HP laptop and an HP desktop computer and they are synchronised to share bookmarks etc as I also have a Nexus 7 tablet. All has been well but now I find that bookmarks place on the bookmarks bar keep disappearing. I spent this morning putting about 15 aviation related links on the bar but suddenly this afternoon they all, apart from standard ones disappeared all of a sudden. I have been running as synchronised for at last 18 months but this is the first time it has happened. I also had imported bookmarks from Internet Explorer and they disappeared as well. The only ones that seem to have avoided this fate are the "Other bookmarks" listing.

Apart from the obvious option of stopping thee synchronisation of bookmarks across all my machines, has anyone else experienced this, and/or could it be a virus that has got into my PC?

No idea about how this works since I don't synchronise bookmarks. But it sounds like one of those situations where one of the sources is the "master". Anything from the "master" is synchronised to the others but also anything different to the "master" is deleted.

A bit like when you back up files and tell the destination to remove anything not still on the source. There are often option not to do this so the destination has files long since deleted on the source.

A lot of tick boxes where choosing the wrong one has unintended consequences.

But then I could be spouting a lot of hot air  ;D

What are you using to do the synchronisation?
