Title: SBS 1e Network Drop out
Post by: plevtls on April 21, 2015, 09:23:51 PM
Evening

Looking for any advice on an SBS 1e issue that's appeared in the last few weeks. I have it running on my network, and have done for 3/4 months without any issue. In the last couple of weeks, I seem to be losing connection, and the only thing that resolves it is a trip to the loft to unplug the SBS unit. This seems to work for about 24/48 hours, then same again.

I have looked at some previous topics, and I've checked my ports aren't 'sleeping'. This seems to mainly happen in the evening too, whether this is coincidence or not, I'm not sure.

Any ideas?

Cheers

How are you connected to the SBS-1e? Ethernet cable to a router, access point or direct to the PC?

Has anything changed lately?

Hi, I'm connected to the network by a power line adaptor, which is connected to the main router, and in turn connected to the sbs unit in the loft via the power line adaptor.

Nothing has changed at all, but since I posted my opening post, I swapped ports on the back of my router, which fired it into life. Not sure why yet, but clearly it points to a network issue as opposed to an SBS issue.

I'll keep an eye on it over the next few days.

Thanks for the update.  Power line adapters may be having the signal disrupted by something.

I kept losing my WiFi whenever the wife turned on the microwave!

Just thought I'd add to this topic with an update. I continued to get the network drop out, again, around the same time every evening. What resolves it, and has also allowed it to run for longer periods before the drop out, is unplugging the power line adaptor from the wall socket for about five minutes.

This brings basestation back straight away, and as I mentioned, it seems to run for a few days before I get another drop out. Not sure what the cause would be, static maybe? May be of help if anyone has similar issues in future.

Cheers

Anmer,

You are not too bad to realise your wife's MW oven killed your WiFi.

Some brilliant scientists were conned by their own microwave oven for 17 years !

Microwave oven to blame for mystery signal that left astronomers stumped

Australian scientists first detected interference in 1998, which they assumed was from lightning strikes, but earlier this year they finally found the real culprit
