Title: Active Display Pro
Post by: paul wright on April 28, 2015, 06:43:16 AM
Good morning ,
I have had my active pro working well for over a year now.
Unfortunately I cannot download the latest countries files and have lost the way of installing new flags.
Also there are some flags missing.
I use a Samsung aitv tablet and using windows 8.1.
I would appreciate any help.

Kind Regards
Paul

Hi Paul

What are you experiencing?  Is AD Pro working OK with some country flags missing or is there something else?

The Countries.dat file will need periodic updating to assign hex codes to a country, for which you need corresponding country flags in the BMPFlags folder.

Bones normally maintains the file but anyone can make changes.

Many thanks your last
Yes , ad is working well and populating , however , the flags will not load at all so I uninstalled it and tried again.
Still the same problem.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Normally Gary would have helped, bless him .

Many Thanks

Hi Paul

Are the country flags displaying OK in BaseStation?

I had the same downloading failure whilst setting up a friend's AD on Sunday and ended up copying the relevant files over from my system using Teamviewer.
I suspect the problem relates to the demise of Bones' website.

I just tried the same using Active Display Lite, the old countries.dat file is re-named with the current date + time appended, but a new file is not downloaded.

Maybe there is an opportunity for the latest file to be hosted here and regularly updated?

I don't use AD Pro but I understood it used the same Countries.dat files as BaseStation?  If that's correct, whilst Countries.dat requires some maintenance from time to time, it shouldn't prevent all flags from appearing in AD Pro.

AD Lite and Pro can access remote servers to download new files such as outlines and waypoints.  Bones' file hosting has been offline for some weeks but, to the best of my knowledge,he has rejected offers to provide alternative hosting.

I'm more than happy to host files here, but as mentioned before, only with the express permission of the relevant author(s).  I suspect the latest Countries.dat version was authored by Bones?

I did recently `converse`with Bones regarding his website and this was his reply-

"Regretfully my ISP is about to stop trading and they pulled the web hosting server last month. The accounts have been taken over by another company but talks about web hosting are still being held. Regradless of the outcome I should be back online next month but the original links will not be restored".

Sadly the Kinectic forum is no longer talking to me,again,so I am unable to comment on the latest position.

G.B.

Thanks Graham.

Bones first reported his web hosting predicament on 23rd February 2015 and I've been reliably informed that he has been offered an alternative, free of charge.

I have no idea why he didn't take up the offer.

Further unwelcome news is that my ISP is not going to renew their web page server so my pages and files are down until I can find a new site to host them. Not a happy bunny.

Sorry, been out all day.

I'm happy to take a look at your setup using Teamviewer at a mutually convenient time.
