There are many posts on Brian's Blog (aka Radarspotters.eu) announcing I've been banned from the ADS-B Community for my bad behaviour and can't be trusted. If only I knew what I've done to deserve this condemnation?
Needless to say, I can't post a reply and the forum owner refuses to remove the offending text.
So I've decided to try a different approach and "suck up" to Brain, hoping he'll grant me a reprieve. I appreciate his Blog doesn't get too many visitors so I'll help out by publishing his contributions here.
His creative and original comments deserve a wider audience.
Or, as someone recently remarked, it will show what a "total bell end" he is.

Mid November Update:
Chris Taylor ( Taylor Made RF ) Reviewer friend(Anmer) is continuing attacking the ADS-B community & Planeplotter Community.
1.) Trying to force Kinetic Avionics or Chris Taylor to release any information on updates on Kinetic BaseStation software enhancements.
(Note: Companies usually don't release that type of information till it's ready to be released)
2.) Anmer continuing posting forum member names on his forum front page. When some of those decided not to fully join the forum.
3.) Anmer attacking the AirNav Forum about little thing on the forum. When mostly likely that post was already reported as spam by another forum member.
4.) Anmer is so worried about who is receiving license fee revenue from annual AD License fees. It's not Anmer company. He doesn't need to know that type of information.
Many of us don't want to see anymore Taylor Made RF Reviews from Anmer in the ADS-B community.
Shame on Chris Taylor still using Anmer for reviews or visiting his forum.

Virgin Media dysfunction
Just a heads up that a number of PlanePlotter users - customers of Virgin Media - are reporting duplicate IP addresses to the server.
It appears that those users are connecting through a VM proxy but this means that none of the UDP traffic that is an essential part of hypersharing and multilateration will reach the intended destination.
There is some suggestion that using the Google DNS 8.8.8.8 will fix this although I am not sure how it can do so.
Apart from that, the advanced functionality in PlanePlotter cannot work with that network configuration.
If you are a customer of VM and are a Master User, I suggest doing a network test to see if you get anomalous results indicative of this abberant behaviour.

Mode-S Beast Firmware Release 1.43 (13.11.2015)
Hello all,
following some confusion around Mode-S Beast firmware, about betas and
whatever became published, this version is released for clarification
and re-synchronisation of Beast users to a common released version:
http://wiki.modesbeast.com/Mode-S_Beast:Firmware_Updates#Revision_1.43_-_13.11.2015
There are minor corrections and improvements done:
* A possible FPGA coding fault was fixed (It never caused problems,
but clean design requires such)
* FPGA output drivers were programmed for slower edges, which lowers
the internally generated noise floor of the board
The Mode-S Beast is available here:
http://shop.jetvision.de/
Enjoy!
Cheers, Günter (dl4mea)

Unencrypted ADS-B OUT Confounds Aircraft Blocking
by Amy Laboda - November 14, 2015
The business aviation industry has an important concern; the lack of any way to de-identify a particular aircraft that is broadcasting an ADS-B OUT signal. With the 2020 U.S. and European mandates for ADS-B OUT rapidly approaching, there is as yet no way to prevent any simple ADS-B receiver from viewing information broadcast by aircraft equipped for ADS-B OUT. Although the Block Aircraft Registration Request (BARR) program is no longer available, the FAA and flight tracking companies have an agreement whereby the flight trackers agree to de-identify an aircraft if requested by the aircraft's owner/operator. This is now called "blocking display of aircraft situation display to industry data," and it is administered by the FAA. But this does not prevent ground-based ADS-B receivers operated by hobbyists all over the world from being able to see even a blocked aircraft's ADS-B OUT information.

World's biggest aircraft touches down in one of Britain's 'worst towns'
Incredible Ukrainian Antonov AN-225 is the longest and heaviest plane ever built - and it's been filmed in a very unlikely setting
Plane spotters are celebrating after seeing one of the world's most impressive aeroplanes land near one of Britain's least impressive towns.
The supersized Ukrainian Antonov AN-225 landed at Robin Hood airport outside Doncaster on Wednesday.
It is understood to have spent a night at the airport before setting off again.
This fattened-up flying machine was recorded in high resolution by a local filmmaker, who published the footage on a Youtube channel called TopFelya.
His video has now been viewed more than 100,000 times.

More pain from Virgin Media
There are currently five Ground Stations reporting the same WAN IP address (62.252.189.70), which is a Virgin Media Proxy. They cannot operate as a Ground Station without submitting a proper IP address with their posts.
Please will the following Ground Stations immediately change their DNS server from the default Virgin Media DNS server to the Google 8.8.8.8 DNS server.

Details on how to do this were included in a recent post to this group.
This change fixes the problem.
There are probably many other VM users that are not contributing anything at the present time, but that I have not noticed. If you are a Virgin Media customer, please consider changing your DNS server to 8.8.8.8.

If you're shopping at Taylor Made RF (TMRF) ham amateur radio store.... You're part of the problem.
Be smart, Don't buy any products from Taylor Made RF. Till Chris Taylor forces Kinetic Avionics to release the SBS-4 ADS-B box.
ADS-B community won't shop to buy another product from Taylor Made RF. TMRF needs to stop selling outdated hardware.
The ADS-B community very disgusted at Taylor Made RF for still selling these many years old & outdated products ( Kinetic Avionics SBS-3 , Kinetic Avionics 1090 Puck). The SBS-3 product was released in year 2012.
It might be best for TMRF to drop the 'Official worldwide distributor' for Kinetic Avionics Limited consumer products till they release newer ADS-B hardware.
Kinetic Avionics needs newer ADS-B hardware to complete with new ADS-B products that is better than Radarcape from modesbeast.com
We will not in any way support TMRF because they have ties with Anmer and what Anmer is doing to the ADS-B community.

FlightAware Reaches New Heights with MLAT Aircraft Tracking
Tuesday, November 17, 2015
Tracking the global whereabouts of aircraft that are not ADS-B or datalink equipped just got easier
LAS VEGAS – November 17, 2015 – FlightAware is announcing a major innovation in global flight tracking with its launch of multilateration (MLAT) tracking of aircraft without ADS-B, an industry first for business aviation.
Leveraging FlightAware's network of over 4,000 receivers in more than 110 countries, FlightAware now offers live flight tracking positions for non-ADS-B equipped aircraft by using multilateration (MLAT) of Mode S transponder signals. When a non-ADS-B aircraft is within line of sight of three or more FlightAware receivers, time difference of arrival (TDOA) MLAT is used to triangulate the position of the aircraft, providing real-time flight positions even where radar data is not available to FlightAware.
Although many new aircraft are delivered with ADS-B and can be tracked with only one FlightAware receiver, many business aircraft operating globally do not emit ADS-B positions. These aircraft can now leverage FlightAware's MLAT network for real-time positions.
MLAT is currently available with about 2,000 existing receivers in the FlightAware network throughout Western Europe, over 40 states in the United States, Japan, Singapore, Eastern Australia, and New Zealand. Additional coverage will be added in December 2015. MLAT will be made available within all FlightAware products.
RELATED NEW DEVELOPMENTS
Flight Plan Advisories: FlightAware Global customers can now input schedules into FlightAware's Flight Plan Advisory Service web page. Subsequent positions received from that aircraft via RADAR, datalink, ADS-B, or MLAT automatically activate the flight plan and enable worldwide flight tracking.
Position-Only Flights: For flights without a flight plan (such as VFR repositioning flights), FlightAware can now synthesize a flight plan based on positions received from RADAR, datalink, ADS-B, or MLAT, which allows real- time tracking of unscheduled operations.
ABOUT FLIGHTAWARE

Embraer announced a major range increase for its Legacy 450 "midlight" jet that it says will allow it to "leapfrog" rival aircraft. The aircraft will now have a maximum range of 2,900 nm, an increase of 325 nm. By contrast, its larger sibling the Legacy 500 has a range of 3,125 nm and can carry two more passengers.
The upgrade, announced here in Las Vegas on Monday, comes from a combination of a minor change to the wing to allow it to accommodate more fuel, modification to the fuel control unit and flight manual, and an 82-foot longer takeoff roll to 3,907 feet at mtow. The increased range will be retrofittable to early serial number aircraft and, for now, the price of the aircraft remains unchanged at $16.57 million.

FAA offers steps to reduce NextGen plane noise
The Federal Aviation Administration has a technical three-phase plan for exploring ways to quiet new and noisy flight paths that have been irking Bay Area residents for months.
Similar complaints are being cried out across the country as the FAA rolls out its NextGen program at some airports. The FAA is upgrading to a satellite system and hopes to reduce air traffic congestion with more direct and condensed routing into airports, such as San Francisco International.
But NextGen causes too much noise pollution, affected Santa Cruz County residents say. They and elected officials have asked the FAA to make change

An RAF Voyager A330 air-to-air refueling aircraft will be refitted at a cost of about £10m.

Some will say yes and others will say no! And in my experience I have swapped out my Wellbrook AL1530AL Loop in favour of a dipole.
If I lived on a plot that was too small to erect a dipole then go for the loop but if you have the space a dipole could produce better results in dxing HF aero contacts.
If you do plan on the dipole make sure you have a suitable 1:1 transformer. I built mine from bits and I was quite surprised how 'different' reception was over the loop. On the frequency the dipole was cut for (8MHz) reception was better and so was 10 and 11MHz. 13MHz was on par with the loop while performance on bands either side of these (3, 5, 6, 17 and 21MHz) were not so good.
Plans are afoot to include a 5MHz dipole once I've figured out the space and hardware required for one (read; placating the garden manager!).

Air France: Demand dipped after Paris attacks
NEW YORK – Air France confirmed a drop in demand following the Nov. 13 terrorist attacks in Paris, but said it's too early to gauge the full impact.
"We have noticed some decline in our bookings," Air France-KLM CEO Alexandre de Juniac told USA TODAY in an interview Thursday. He described the drop-off as "in line with what our competitors have faced in very similar situations," referring to the impact on local carriers following terrorist attacks in London in 2005 and in Madrid in 2004.
Air France was not directly targeted in the attacks, thought to inspired by the ISIS terror group. But industry observers had been watching to see if travelers have become spooked about flying after the Paris attacks.

Should Taylor Made RF Limited TMRF.co.uk and other ham amateur radio stores to stop selling the Tytera junk MD-380 DMR radio.
Without putting any notice on the product page about the MD380 time slot bleed over issue.
Taylor Made RF & others should stop flooding the amateur radio market with bad DMR radios.
The DMR Community can boycott those stores that is continuing to sell bad DMR radios.
You can read more about it on the TYT-TYTERA yahoogroup.
Topic: MD380 time slot bleed over issue?
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/TYT-TYTERA/conversations/topics/1701
Topic: Interference to other time slot when transmitting
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/TYT-TYTERA/conversations/topics/1685
Quote:
If you want to transmit in both slots at the same time you key then unkey and then quickly key again. I believe it is a defect in the C5000 chip and if such would be hard to completely fix. TYT has very little control over getting problems resolved.
Quote:
There was a lot of talk about banning MD380's from repeaters because of it.
Quote:
Last Tuesday I heard this happen on the AC4XQ system in SE Florida. There were conversations at about 7:30 AM. Myself, Conrad, & John were talking on TS1, while most of the drive to work guys were talking on TS2. We heard some interference on TS1, & I immediately went to TS2, & asked who was using a Tytera MD-380. Ryan admitted he was, so we told him what we had heard. The other 2 radios on TS2 at the time were a Hytera PD782, & a Motorola XPR4550. Both quality radios. By the way, his tx audio on the Tytera is extremely loud, & the system owner told him to talk into the back of the radio, since there is no way to adjust the mike gain using CPS. Now Rick has Ryan on a short leash, & every time he gets on the repeater, someone goes to the opposite time slot to listen for more interference. Rick is seriously considering not allowing any more Tytera radios access to his system. It's a closed system, & you must ask permission to use it. The user's DMR-MARC # is entered into a computer. Not in the computer, you can't bring up the repeater. We are not DMRC, & we only have 2 TG's. One TG per time slot. Rick & John own all 8 repeaters on the Florida wide system. This is causing a rift between the charter members who have quality radios, & the new members who bought their radios for $125, & could possibly cause interference like Ryan's radio did.
Quote:
In my view, the MD-380, marketed too early and unpolished major problems. I understand it is an economic radius but have used us as guinea pigs for 390 and successives radios.
Quote:
There are plenty, almost too many DMR repeaters in our area. The 380 owners are free to use their radios on open D-Marc repeaters. Ours is a closed system, & the owners have lots of $ tied up in the 8 repeaters they own. It's almost a 7 day a week job to maintain the repeaters. Sub standard radios are not welcome here. There are many Motorola, Hytera, CS700, & 750 owners who do not cause interference from the bleed over. By the way, this particular MD-380 owner is selling his radio, & has a Motorola radio on order.
Quote:
Hopefully they are working on a fix for that. It's not a user's mistake with programming. But until then, repeater owners locally are banning them because of the interference they cause.
Quote:
I've contacted TYT about this issue, with time-domain spectrum analysis captures that shows 32ms frames (33ms if tx start gap is included) and the correct 29ms (30ms) frames. But they have not bother to answer me.
I have zero hope on them fixing anything, and the same problem could probably affect the new Tytera Radios.
Quote:
But what we don't want is to be talking on TS1, & a guy with a MD-380 who is talking on TS2 bleeding over to TS1 & interfering with our discussion. This happened a few days ago here, & yes, I was one of guys who was on TS1 listening to the guy on TS2 causing interference on TS1.
Quote:
The local DMR repeater owner just put his foot down on users whose 380's are causing interference on his system.
Quote:
We have Hytera repeaters that can do exactly that. Remove the offending user's ID # from the data base. And now with $130 radios being available until the end of the year. how much interference will people who chose to buy top tier radios have to put up with? The repeater owner is getting upset, as he\s being bombarded with complaints.
Thread: Tytera radios - junk
Quote:
Guys, something you should all be aware of when purchasing these "budget" DMR radios... And I'm not suggesting the radio in post #1 is budget/crap as I have no experience with it:
One of our forum members -- a communications engineer with a doctorate, had the engineers at his firm check out one particular brand of radio: Tytera. They wanted to make sure the low-cost Tytera radios were suitable for implementation on their quality DMR network.
They found the Tytera radios have TDMA timing issues, in the sense they are not staying within their timeslots. That is causing overlap/splatter into the secondary timeslot. As a result, malicious interference can be caused to weak(er) signals when a Tytera radio is transmitting.
Tytera radios are not welcome on the network they're running as they have the real potential to cause harmful interference to other users.
Hytera, Motorola and other QUALITY brands did not have any timing issues.
DO NOT buy a radio based on price. You do get what you pay for.
Quote:
I find it scary that a DMR radio can be so bad that it can interfere with another slot. If I were the system owner, my answer would be to ban that radio from my system.
http://communications.support/threads/10541-Tytera-radios-junk
Maybe we can get some feed back from the ham club or Chris Taylor G0WTZ to talk about the MD-380 problem.

Airline orders takeaway for five planes full of stranded passengers who were diverted due to bad weather
19 November 2015
* People on five of Delta Airlines flights diverted to Columbia received pizza
* Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport said that the weather caused the delays
* One woman claimed the act of kindness was a first in her 20 years of travel
Passengers on a delayed plane were treated to takeaway pizza by an airline when their flight was diverted.
The travellers on-board the Delta Airlines flight to Atlanta were given margherita and pepperoni pizzas while they waited to be given the all clear following a diversion to Columbia in South Carolina on Wednesday.
Photos of the takeaway feast, which was delivered to five of the airlines planes diverted to the airport, were posted on social media.

PHOTOS – A WEEK OF RETRO AIRLINE LIVERIES: AMERICAN, QANTAS, & PIA
It seems this was quite the week for a few airlines to show off some very cool retro liveries. We have American showing off their TWA scheme, PIA shows off a classic look, and Qantas has their Retro Roo II livery. They say things come in threes; it looks like airlines really came through on this one.
It is always great when airlines put out retro liveries, but it can be a bit odd (and cool) to see these liveries on different aircraft types that never previously saw those schemes. We take a closer look at these new (old) designs, and the aircraft they are on.

Delta CEO Is Right -- Used Boeing 777-200s Are Worth Just $10 Million, Expert Says
Wednesday, November 18, 2015
It turns out Delta CEO Richard Anderson was right about the value of used Boeing 777s, according to a leading airline and aerospace consultant.
On Delta's Oct. 14 earnings call, Anderson said the used aircraft market is glutted with used Boeing 777s and becoming more so. Anderson said he sees "a huge bubble in excess-wide-body airplanes around the world," creating a market for 10-year-old 777-200s at about $10 million.

USB connection coming soon (3 months)
"It is intended for the RBCS to be able to connect to a computer via USB similar to the existing box within the next 3 months."
Quote from http://romanian-spotters.forumer.ro
Hi Cosmin,
My name is Alan McKnight and I represent AirNav Systems.
Our company develops the RadarBox24 website, apps and ADS-B receivers.
Some time ago you expressed interest in receiving an ADS-B receiver so we can increase our coverage in your area of the world.
The package you would receive consists of an ADS-B receiver, external antenna, an ethernet cable and a power supply. The cable from the antenna to the receiver (antenna cable) has 7 meters (23 ft) and from the receiver to the router (ethernet cable) 15 meters (50 ft). This should be enough for your needs.
If so please answer the following questions:
1- Are you still interested in getting this receiver?
2- Are you able to place the antenna with a full 360 degree view of the sky?
3- Are you able to connect the receiver to a router/switch with broadband internet?
4- Are you able to keep the connection ON 24 hours per day, 365 days per year?
If yes we would be happy to offer you a brand new RadarBox ComStation and invite you to be part of our soon to be released Elite membership where you would be able to access exclusive features at RadarBox24 for free.
Waiting for your reply so we can send you our agreement.
Regards, Alan McKnight
The units stream what you are picking up to the network for display on Radarbox24 and also on the network for users who use that facility with their Radarbox. It is MLAT capable and will also stream 2 way voice communications similar to Live ATC again for Radarbox24.
The units don't at this time connect to direct to a computer just to power, internet and the antenna and stream to RB24 and the network. As far as I am aware it is intended for the RBCS to be able to connect to a computer via USB similar to the existing box within the next 3 months.
Obviously to make MLAT work we need feeders so if anyone on the Romanian Spotters forum is interested, they can register via Increase Coverage on Radarbox24.com

Radarcape Software Release 151121.19.20.30 (November, 2015)
Hello all,
after a while, we are able to release the latest version of software for the Radarcape:
http://wiki.modesbeast.com/Radarcape:Firmware_Versions#Release_151121.19.20.30
This is the first official common release for Debian and Angstrom. From this point on, new Radarcapes will be delivered with Debian operating system. Functionality of Debian and Angstrom based Radarcapes is absolutely identical. There is no urgent need for updating to Debian. For those interested in reading about the Debian upgrade, see Radarcape:DebianSupport http://wiki.modesbeast.com/Radarcape:DebianSupport
New Features:
• UDP output of port 10003 - 10006 and port 30003: Information available on the TCP accessible ports can now be distributed to multiple clients via UDP protocol in parallel (with reduced resolution of timestamp).
• Two selectable skins for Planevision and Beast style.
• Three new levels for access control of the webpages:
o Very Strict: Each internal website requires being logged-in.
o Strict: Configuration and the status pages require being logged-in.
o Public: Just the configuration pages require being logged-in.
• 2D Map:
o Label for each aircraft icon with Callsign, Flightlevel/Vertical Rate, and Ground Speed.
o Climbing aircraft are displayed in sky blue, descending aircraft in earth brown, level flight in yellow.
o The detailed aircraft information table disappears if clicking to an empty area and on time-out.
o Trails disappear on time-out.
• New page: Status - System Information
• Introduction of feature keys for enabling of future SW options (options none available, yet).
Changes and Corrections:
• Map style changed from Terrain to Montony.
• Improved web session handling.
• GPS Improvements:
o Improved monitoring of GPS module. This may lead to delayed functionality where a proper GPS fix is necessary, e.g. GPS timestamps. Time and PPS must be based on UTC for operation. When the almanach is not yet available, it may require up to 5 minutes until UTC time is available.
o Support of operation without GPS antenna. Requires manual configuration of the Radarcape location as precise as possible via the web interface.
o The 'Antenna short' message in the GPS status was fixed.
• Debian: Support of software update using the maintenance menu.
• FR24 feeder updated to new version.
• FPGA: minor bug correction which spoiled GPS time-stamp at 16:16 UTC.
Have fun and enjoy!
Cheers, Günter (dl4mea)

Local airports using planespotters as additional security
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- South Florida airports are using a few extra eyes for security reasons during the holidays.
Plane watching is a hobby to some, but it's now helping authorities keep watch of the tarmac.
Atapattu's hobby is planespotting. Just like trainspotters with trains, planespotters spend hours at airports all over the country, enamored with aviation. Their hobby of watching planes, however, is now evolving to one expanding our airports' overall security plans. "They call it having like a neighborhood watch around people's homes," Atapattu said. "This is kind of an airport watch."
They've gone through background checks, security training and at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, are integrated as "FLL plane watch," where they use their long lenses for their hobby... and the lookout. "A lot of us are out here a lot of weekends," Crips said. "You get a feel for the flow of things and you can recognize things that seem strange."
Around the country, about a dozen airports are now doing this, including Phoenix, Chicago and right here in Miami.

British Airways passengers who fled plane fire before Las Vegas takeoff file lawsuit
Passengers who ran from a British Airways flight that caught fire in September before takeoff in Las Vegas are suing the plane's manufacturer and the maker of the engines.
London-based Stewarts Law said Friday it filed a lawsuit in Chicago against GE Aviation and Boeing Co. on behalf of 65 passengers who were bound for London and say they suffered physically and emotionally.
The Boeing 777-200 was moments from takeoff at McCarran International Airport on Sept. 8 before what would have been a 10-hour journey when its left engine burst into flames sending smoke billowing and passengers fleeing.

Final C-17 departs Long Beach
Last Boeing C-17 leaves Southern California assembly plant
The last C-17 Globemaster III built at a Southern California Boeing plant soared into history on Sunday with a flyover that marked the end of an era for the region's once-thriving aerospace industry.
The enormous cargo jet was cheered in Long Beach as if roared over the heads of an estimated 1,000 onlookers, many of them Boeing employees, spokesman Felix Sanchez said.
The jet, which can hold more than 80 tons of cargo, will be housed in San Antonio, Texas, until it is delivered to the Qatar Emiri Air Force early next year.
"This is truly the end of an era. It's a sad day, but one that all of the Boeing employees and suppliers who have worked over the years building this great aircraft can be proud of," Nan Bouchard, vice president and C-17 program manager, said in a statement.
The Long Beach facility assembled more than 250 C-17s over two decades but Boeing announced two years ago that it didn't have enough foreign orders to justify keeping the plant open.
With production ending, most of the 25-acre plant will be shuttered by year's end. However, some engineering support for aircraft may continue there for a year or two.

New generation 'doomsday' airborne command post to enter service in Russia
Russia's defense industry has completed tests of a new flying command center capable of maintaining full control over the country's armed forces in the event of a global disaster or nuclear war. Russia and the US are the only two nations to possess a command center of this kind.
The airborne strategic command center aboard an Ilyushin Il-80 aircraft, a modification of the Il-86 wide-body jet airliner, has successfully completed testing and will be ready for operations by the end of 2015, Russia's United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation (UIMC) said.
The operational deployment of the airborne center is indispensable in situations when there is an absence of ground infrastructure, and in conditions where communications from ground facilities have been disrupted.

Virgin Galactic to use Boeing 747 as launch pad for spaceship
Virgin Galactic, a commercial spaceflight company founded by Richard Branson, has unveiled an old Virgin Atlantic jumbo jetliner, Boeing 747- 400, which will be used as a launch pad for hurling satellites into space.
The aircraft, acquired from the company's airline wing, will act as a platform for Virgin Galactic's LauncherOne small satellite launch service.
The launch system is expected to go operational by 2018.

Pilot Complaints Cite Christmas Light Displays
At least two pilots in the last week have lodged complaints about laser light in the cockpit that was traced back to a Christmas light display, raising concerns about the popular displays, according to media reports. Authorities found the source of laser light that affected a mail pilot near Mason County Airport in western Michigan last week was a home display set up outdoors and aimed at the side of a barn. The light reflected into the sky directly across the airplane's flight path, authorities said. In Dallas, an American Airlines 737 crew reported a laser strike at 13,000 feet that also was traced to a holiday display.

The ADS-B Waiting Game
When should you upgrade your airplane for ADS-B?
So let me guess. You still haven't equipped your airplane for ADS-B. With the calendar about to flip from 2015 to 2016 – and with the FAA mandate still stubbornly set for Jan. 1, 2020 – you're starting to feel a little squeamish. You know you should install mandate-compliant ADS-B gear (including a WAAS GPS position source and antenna if you don't have one already) but you're reluctant to act. What if the mandate is delayed? What if a better, cheaper option comes along?
If you've already upgraded your airplane for ADS-B, congratulations. Your worries are behind you, and you're probably already enjoying some of the benefits of ADS-B, such as traffic and weather data if you also have an ADS-B In solution.

Malaysia Airports seeks owner of three Boeing 747s abandoned at KLIA
Tuesday, 8 December 2015
Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), the country's main airport operator, is seeking the owner of three unclaimed planes left at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
In a notice in The Star's classifieds section on Monday, Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd, which manages KLIA, gave the unknown owner of three Boeing 747-200F aircraft 14 days to collect his planes.
"If you fail to collect the aircraft within 14 days of the date of this notice, we reserve the right to sell or otherwise dispose of the aircraft," the notice read, adding that the money raised would be used to offset any expenses and debts due.
The owner was being sought under the Civil Aviation Regulations 1996 and could be subjected to charges by Malaysia Airports (Sepang), presumably for storing the three planes at the international airport, although the notice does not specify how much.

HondaJet Wins FAA Certification
Honda Aircraft's light jet won certification from the FAA this week, making the formal announcement Wednesday at the company's Greensboro, N.C., plant.
Honda's long-anticipated announcement comes after more than 18 years of development for the twin jet, which completed certification flight tests in November.
The aircraft, known officially as the HA-420, is expected to develop into a series of larger jets featuring Honda's wing pylon design and versions of the HF120 engines.
Honda's first clean-sheet aircraft design was "an unprecedented challenge" for the company, CEO Michimasa Fujino said.

Heathrow expansion: Plane spotters take 'blind test'
9 December 2015
The decision is still pending on whether a new runway will be built at Heathrow or Gatwick to try to meet the UK's air capacity needs.
But many people living near airports fear any expansion would make the noise from landing and take-offs worse. The airline industry argues noise can be minimised with modern aircraft design.
In a very unscientific study, video journalist Dougal Shaw visited a spot popular with plane spotters near Heathrow, to see how distinctive plane noise can be.
He asked Keith Blackham, Brian Richards and Peter Harding to guess what make and model of planes were landing behind them, without seeing them.

USA's three biggest airlines now ban hoverboards
Hoverboards may be gaining popularity as Christmas presents this year, but they're falling out of favor with an increasing number of big airlines.
American, Delta and United all announced on Thursday that they would no longer allow the devices on their planes.
"As cool as they are, there's one big problem: they are not safe to transport on an airplane," Alaska Airlines, which moved to ban hoverboads last week, explained Thursday via its corporate blog.
"Poorly labeled, powerful lithium-ion batteries powering hoverboards are the issue," Delta added in its own statement. "Delta reviewed hoverboard product specifications and found that manufacturers do not consistently provide detail about the size or power of their lithium-ion batteries"

Two ATC agencies 'blacklist' 787 over position-data flaw
Most of the Boeing 787s delivered to date contain a software defect that, in at least five identified aircraft, have erroneously reported their location to controllers, prompting two air traffic management agencies to put the Dreamliner on a "blacklist" for certain services.
Although it denies the software defect creates a safety hazard, Boeing says a service bulletin with instructions for operators to correct the position reporting error will be released "imminently".

Cameron delays decision on new airport runway for London
Prime Minister David Cameron's government delayed a decision on whether to build a new runway at Heathrow Airport on Thursday, arguing that it needs more time to study the impact on air quality, noise and other environmental concerns.
Cameron had promised a firm decision by the end of this year on whether to choose Heathrow or Gatwick for airport expansion. Business leaders in Britain argue that the country needs more airport capacity in southeastern England to keep the country growing.
Heathrow had been selected by an independent panel over rival Gatwick, but in recent weeks, speculation has been building from Cameron's office that a decision would be delayed, in part because of environmental issues raised in a Parliamentary report earlier this month. Cameron's critics also suggested he wanted to delay the fiercely unpopular decision to boost the chances of the Conservative candidate Zac Goldsmith in London's mayoral race in May.

Global Advance Of ADS-B
ADS-B is rapidly becoming the surveillance standard for air traffic management worldwide
In the not-too-distant future, it will be possible to fly anywhere over the planet in an Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast environment affording benefits equally to flight crews, operators and air traffic controllers.
Not only are countries throughout the world adding ADS-B ground stations to ultimately replace radar for primary surveillance, others with limited or no radar capability are leapfrogging directly to ADS-B as a less-expensive alternative. However, there's real potential for global coverage absent any terrestrial network. This will materialize beginning this year with early launches of the second generation of the Iridium telecommunications satellite constellation on which ADS-B transponders will piggyback. With 66 satellites in inclined orbits, the system — conceived and managed by Iridium subsidiary Aireon LLC, and scheduled to go on line in 2018 — will assure full global coverage. Everywhere, with no voids.

Hi,
PlanePlotter version 6.4.3.9 is now available for download by following the link on the PlanePlotter web site.
http://www.planeplotter.com
-----------
New in version 6.4.3.9
Info popup
The Info popup has been extended optionally to include the outside air temperature, the wind speed and direction, the expanded operator name and the expanded type. The operator and the type are extracted from the SQB file (where fitted) and the wind data is subject to it being polled by the radar site. You can turn the new options on an off using Options..Chart..Info popup.
Radar site identifier timeout
I have introduced a timeout for the radar site identifier such that the identifier will disappear if no site identification has been received for 30 seconds. Previously, if no new identifiers were received, the last identifier would persist for as long as the aircraft was current.
Port forwarding
Many validated Ground Stations have difficulty in keeping their port fowarding working. This release includes the ability for PlanePlotter to trigger the UPnP utility that is bundled with PP. It is hoped that users who have allowed their port forwarding to lapse but have UPnP enabled in their router, can now have their port forwarding configured by PP itself without user intervention. Of course, many routers do not have UPnP enabled but we are hoping that enough will do so, for this to bring more GSs into operation.
Auto screen grabs
The date-time group overlaid on automatically saved JPG images, now uses an opaque background unconditionally. This will avoid contrast problems that occurred with earlier versions.
Ground Station validation of low-traffic users
This is not a feature of PP itself but I have modified the server to measure more fairly the time tag validity for users with very low message rates. Previously, users with few messages would always fail the Ground Station time tag test. In many cases, the new server script may allow such potential GS to pass the tests that they previously failed. If you aspire to be a Ground Station but have been failing the time tag test, please try
again. The result may now be different.
Enjoy!
Regards
Bev

The two most prized strips of concrete in the world are the dual runways at Heathrow, Europe's busiest airport. FAA Drone Rule Released
The FAA's new rule that will require drone users to register their aircraft was released today, and FAA officials told reporters this morning they're hopeful the word will get out and users will comply.
"Unmanned aircraft operators are aviators," said Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx, on a conference call.
"And with that title comes a great deal of responsibility."
He added: "My message to unmanned aircraft operators is pretty simple: It is in your best interest to register early....
This is one step we're taking, but it's not the only step the government will take when it comes to the safe integration of these technologies.
We reserve the right to ratchet up or down depending on circumstances as they continue to evolve." The rule applies to all drones weighing between 0.55 and 55 pounds.

Volocopter VC200 : first easy-to-fly helicopter takes off
Safely piloting a helicopter requires a very high degree of piloting skill. Up until now, flying a helicopter has been one of the ultimate challenges in the aviation world.
Karlsruhe-based company e-volo GmbH recently finished its first easy-to-fly helicopter, the 2-seater Volocopter VC200, and performed test flights in the open.
In the process, the company's CEO Alex Zosel remotely flew the Volocopter for the first time – single-handed and only with a joystick. Zosel himself is extremely impressed by how easily and intuitively the VC200 is operated.

Flexjet Outlines How Supersonic AS2s Will Be Integrated
Like its Gulfstream G650s that will enter service next year, Flexjet's supersonic Aerion AS2s—slated for delivery starting in 2023—will be part of the fractional provider's Global Access program, Flexjet chairman and parent company Directional Aviation Capital principal Kenn Ricci told AIN. This means that Flexjet will not be selling shares in either of these long-range aircraft.
Instead, existing Flexjet share owners would pay an additional monthly fee to get access to the G650 and AS2, in addition to hourly occupied charges. The company said these hourly charges will be "dynamic," with members paying lower rates for the hours spent in long-range cruise.

Upload Only setting - a warning
Users who share their data with other servers please take note.
If you select Upload Only, the server is prohibited from sending any data to you. That includes sending you the correct share code - so if you have Upload Only selected, you might be sending out the wrong share code with your data.
That is not a problem for the PlanePlotter network as you are identified in other ways but any third party systems will receive the wrong share code from you and that will confuse their administration of their data suppliers.
Several times recently, I have been asked by third party systems about two users with, apparently, the same share code. In every case, one of the users was uploading the wrong share code because they had Upload Only set and the PP server was unable to send the correct share code.
If you share your data with other services, please - from time to time - enable two way sharing (download as well as upload - ie two arrows showing on the Share button) - so that the server can send you the correct share code. You only need to enable it for a minute or two (a share cycle) and then, if you wish, you can restore Upload Only.
Thank you.

British Airways jet that caught fire before takeoff at McCarran to fly again
The British Airways Boeing 777 that aborted a takeoff at McCarran International Airport with 157 passengers and 13 crew members aboard in September will fly again.
A representative of the London-based airline said Wednesday that crews would be dispatched to McCarran and that work would begin "shortly" to repair the aircraft's hull to make it airworthy.
Noting that "safety is always British Airways' top priority," a company spokeswoman said in an email, "The airframe was inspected by a team of highly experienced engineers from Boeing who concluded that the damage was limited and suitable for repair.
"A team from Boeing will carry out the repair work, which will be certified to the same high standards as if the aircraft was brand new," she said.
She did not give a timetable for repairs or when the plane would be flown, but the work is expected to begin next month.
The company did not elaborate on the repair process or how much it would cost to fix the plane.
While the jet is parked at McCarran, British Airways is paying $375 a day in fees and by the end of 2015, the bill will reach about $31,000.

With easyJet deal, FlightRadar24 may soar past rivals
Earlier this month, FlightRadar24, a site that monitors live air traffic, announced a milestone linkup with EasyJet. It will provide live flight-tracking within the airline's app.
EasyJet, Europe's second-largest budget carrier after Ryanair, is the world's first airline to deeply integrate live flight-tracking with FlightRadar24.
The deal highlights how airlines worldwide have not made true live flight-tracking a standard feature within airline-branded mobile apps. Travelers can get standard flight updates, but these are often not in real-tims. Delay alerts are themselves delayed.
So there's a huge market opportunity.
But the deal also prompts the question of how FlightRadar24 came to be one of the most dominant players in flight tracking.
Take a look at this Google Trends chart, which compares the search volumes among FlightAware, FlightRadar24, and FlightStats:

Aviation enthusiasts clean up around airport
Saturday 19th December 2015
A group of plane spotters were so disgusted with the state of some National Trust land next to Manchester Airport that they took it upon themselves to clean up the mess.
On Thursday, 17th December, five volunteers removed cans, bottles and rubbish from Southside - the piece of land next to the Airport Hotel which overlooks the runway.
Lee Calver said "It's a favourite viewing spot for aviation enthusiasts. We go there regularly and this litter is detrimental to wildlife and can also be a hazard to aircraft if blown on to the runway. We would like to keep going to this location and not be forced off by some idiots littering so took our our steps to clean up."
National trust rangers came along afterwards to remove the 13 bags of rubbish that were collected.

Important message for UK airspace users
Any UK airspace users expecting to fly this coming Thursday night are being told to be aware of the presence of a vintage flying sleigh travelling at high speed around the country.
The sleigh, described as performing 'high energy manoeuvres,' will be unable to comply with the normal rules of the air. Air crews are also recommended to be on alert when transiting areas with 'high concentrations of chimneys.'
Earlier this month, NATS released a video showing the behind the scenes work that goes into Santa's flight plan each year. With Christmas Eve now fast approaching, it's important for pilots and crews to be prepared.

Flightaware MLAT stats now live
Hi everyone,
FlightAware is pleased to announce that we've just released a huge upgrade to our stats system that significantly improves our processing speed (faster stats and we can have nearly unlimited receivers now) and we now generate stats for MLAT flight tracking, both separately from ADS-B and totaled for rankings. Everyone's stats has been upgraded automatically although MLAT data processing only started in the last day. For more information on MLAT, please visit https://flightaware.com/adsb/mlat/
Now that we're on the new highly-scalable stats platform, we can focus on new features and other improvements to the stats program.
This project has been underway for months and involves a team of about four developers at FlightAware -- kudos to them!

Deal Is Close That Would Shield Some Data on Flights
Group fears new navigation technology would make it possible for aviation enthusiasts, news media to routinely track flights across the U.S.
Business aviation groups and federal officials are close to agreement on ways to maintain the privacy of certain aircraft movements, despite air-traffic control upgrades that otherwise would make such information public.
The new tracking system, called ADS-B and part of a broader air-traffic control revamp incorporating satellite technology, will become mandatory by the end of the decade. It uses different signals and doesn't permit selective blocking of data by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Changes to ADS-B aircraft stats starting 18 December
From Dec 18, the way in which ADS-B aircraft are counted by the stats system was changed.
The aircraft counts before the 18th are not comparable to the aircraft counts after the 18th.
If you see a change in your ADS-B aircraft counts starting from the 18th, this is normal. The data that you're feeding to FlightAware has not changed and is still being used in the same way. This is only a change to the stats system, to produce counts that are consistent with multilateration aircraft counts, and to fix the "total" value which was not reliably counting aircraft.
Stats shown for the 19th-21st are, at the time of writing, a mix of the old system and the new system. They are being reprocessed now under the new system. This should be complete within about the next 24 hours. Once that is done, everything since the 18th should be on the new system.

On 23 November 2015 we welcomed the newest member of our fleet, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. One of the most advanced airplanes of its time, which offers by default top-level quality and comfort.
Nonetheless, KLM wanted to take an extra step to offer its passengers an even more exceptional flight experience.
We have therefore added some extra features on top of the already amazing features of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
This will allow passengers to be more relaxed and fit when they arrive at their destination.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner will fly to Abu Dhabi five times a week, with final destination Bahrain.

The reports that Virtual Radar Server shows you are all coming from your BaseStation.sqb database file. If you do not have a BaseStation.sqb file (by default you won't) then you need to:
1. Make sure you are running version 2.3 or better of Virtual Radar Server.
2. Download and install the Database Writer Plugin.
3. Run VRS and go to Tools | Options.
4. Ensure that Lookup aircraft details online is ticked in the Data Sources screen.
5. Go to Tools | Plugins.
6. Click Options against the entry for Database Writer.
7. Ensure that Enabled is ticked.
8. Select the receiver that you want to be able to report on.
9. Enter a filename (you can click the Use default file name link to generate one for you).
10. Tick the box for Save online lookups in database.
11. If you do not intend to edit the database entries manually then you may also want to tick Overwrite details on existing aircraft so that the aircraft details are kept up to date.
12. Click Create Database to create your BaseStation.sqb file.
13. Click OK.
The plugin should then start writing the details for aircraft and flights picked up by your receiver, and those details should appear on the reports.
Note that the writer won't close a flight session until roughly 25 minutes after the last signal is received from an aircraft. Until then the flight will have minimal details in the report.

Operator Flags and Model Silhouettes
The Virtual Radar Server installer does not install operator flags or model silhouette images. The first step in getting these working for your installation is to download a set of flags and silhouettes and unzip them onto your machine.
You can download silhouettes and operator flags from Kinetic's website here: http://www.kinetic.co.uk/resourcesdownloads.php
The Silhouettes Logos file contains the model silhouettes, there's only one of those. You have a choice of different operator flags, they're the files Operator Logos Version 1 through Version 4. To get things going just pick version 1, you can experiment with the others later and pick one you like.
Unzip the two files into separate folders. Remember where you unzipped them.
In Virtual Radar Server go to Tools | Options.
In the Data Sources section enter the full path to the folder where you unzipped Silhouettes Logos into Silhouettes folder, and the full path to the folder where you unzipped Operator Logos Version 1 into Flags folder.
If you do not have a BaseStation.sqb configured then ensure that you have Lookup aircraft details online ticked.
Click OK. If everything worked then you should start seeing silhouettes and operator flags on the web site.

Bad Elf Crowd-funding Aims To Cut Cost of ADS-B IN Receivers
Bluetooth GPS manufacturer Bad Elf has launched a crowd-funding effort on Kickstarter to bring a low-cost and universally compatible portable ADS-B receiver to market. The Bad Elf receiver will come in four configurations, all with GPS: $299 for single-band 978 MHz (weather and traffic); $449 for 978 MHz with AHRS (attitude information); $449 for single-band 1090 MHz with AHRS (air-to-air traffic, for use outside the U.S. where ADS-B IN weather is not available); $549 for dual-band 978 and 1090 MHz with AHRS. These prices are for the Kickstarter effort. The Bad Elf Kickstarter ends on January 14 at 7 p.m.

Why Taylor Made RF Should Hang Up and stop selling Kinetic Aviation Product line(SBS-3,1090 Puck) in 2016.
Ever since nearly few years ago, Kinetic Aviation hasn't been able to compete with the other ADS-B Products.
Kinetic Aviation development ended years ago and hasn't seen any updates for many years.
* No BaseStation software updates in the last few years.
* No BaseStation Aircraft Database released for many years by Kinetic Aviation.
* Kinetic Aviation doesn't provide direct customer support. They tell the distributor/dealers to provide support. (Product support could be limited when the Distributor/Dealer sell many other products.)
Being a distant fourth place might not be a big deal for Kinetic Aviation.
** Other products from AirNav Systems,Radarcape,PlanePlotter, etc includes built-in aircraft database updating.
** Other ADS-B products provide their own customer support.
Taylor Made RF could start selling the updated ADS-B products like Radarcape, Flightfeeder/PiAware, AirNavSystems ComStation, Planevision, ADS-B R820T USB-Dongles, etc

AIN Blog: 2015 Was A Year of Progress for Helicopter Technology
Last year was a noteworthy one for rotorcraft, with confirmation of some trends and the unexpected emergence of some others. Despite a softening commercial market, attributable largely to the dwindling price of oil, airframers do not appear to have scaled back their investment in technology.
Airbus Helicopters unveiled the H160 medium twin (until then codenamed X4), a clean-sheet design in the 12,000- to 13,000-pound-mtow category (typically 12 seats). As expected, it will succeed the AS365 Dauphin/EC155 series.

2015 was the safest year ever according to ASN data
The Aviation Safety Network today released the preliminary 2015 airliner accident statistics showing a record low total of 16 fatal airliner accidents, resulting in 560 fatalities.
Despite several high profile accidents, the year 2015 turned out to be a very safe year for commercial aviation, Aviation Safety Network data show.
Over the year 2015 the Aviation Safety Network recorded a total of 16 fatal airliner accidents, resulting in 560 fatalities. This makes 2015 the safest year ever by number of fatal accidents and the 5th safest year ever in terms of fatalities. Most accidents involved passenger flights (7) . Given the expected worldwide air traffic of 34,000,000 flights, the accident rate is 1 fatal passenger flight accident per 4,857,000 flights.
The low number of accidents comes as no surprise, according to ASN President Harro Ranter: "Since 1997 the average number of airliner accidents has shown a steady and persistent decline, for a great deal thanks to the continuing safety-driven efforts by international aviation organisations such as ICAO, IATA, Flight Safety Foundation and the aviation industry."
The worst accident last year happened on October 31 when a Metrojet Airbus A321 crashed in the Sinai Desert, killing 224. While investigation is still ongoing, it is claimed that the accident occurred as a result of the detonation of an explosion device. This accident represents the dark side of 2015, together with the accident involving Germanwings flight 9525. The Airbus A320 crashed in France on March 25 and is likely attributed to pilot suicide.
Just three previous years (1988, 1983, 1985) show a higher death toll of accidents (likely) attributed to sabotage, shoot downs and pilot suicide.
Two out of 16 accident airplanes were operated by airlines on the E.U. "black list".

ART FOR PLANESPOTTERS
First, [Johan] gutted an old Macintosh Classic computer and stuffed a Raspberry Pi inside. Now this is not really a new idea, but [Johan] did a very nice job with the monitor and his attention to detail shows in the rebuilt floppy-drive eject mechanism. He gives it back that characteristic "schlurp" noise.
Then he outfitted the Raspberry Pi with an RTL dongle running dump1090 software to listen to the ADS-B radio signals. The data extracted from the SDR is piped off to an MQTT server with all sorts of data about the airplanes overhead. Another script subscribes to the MQTT topic and figures out which is the closest and runs an image search for the plane type in question, publishing the results back to another MQTT topic. One final script subscribes to this last topic and displays the relevant images on the screen. Pshwew!

U.S Bizjet Accident Fatalities Plummet in 2015
The number of fatalities in U.S.-registered business jet accidents last year fell by more than 50 percent year-over-year. According to preliminary data researched by AIN, 13 people perished in two fatal accidents involving N-numbered business jets last year versus 30 in six crashes in 2014. One of the two crashes last year, fatal to four aboard the jet, was a midair between a Sabreliner flying under a military contract and a Cessna 172. Meanwhile, the number of nonfatal mishaps last year increased threefold, rising from six in 2014 to 18.

Pioneer Concorde Test Pilot Andre Turcat Dies
Concorde flew its last commercial service 12 years ago, but the pilot who first took the Anglo-French SST into the sky survived up until this week.
Andre Turcat, who commanded the four-man crew that made Concorde's 27-minute first flight from Toulouse-Blagnac on March 2, 1969, died at his home in Aix-en-Provence on Monday at the age of 94.
He had joined the Free French air force in World War II and later, during the Indochina War, flew C-47s with enough panache to earn a place at France's EPNER test-pilot school at Istres.

Hints and tips
Re-registration
With the sudden rush of Win 10 updates that change the fingerprint that PlanePlotter uses to generate the serial number, I am getting a surprising number of messages along the lines of "Help - my registration number doesn't work any more!"
If an update changes the serial number, simply follow the registration procedure using the new serial number (PP....) to generate the new registration number and then, when that is done, follow the authentication procedure to generate the new authentication code. If you write to me about it, I will just tell you that anyway, and you will have to wait until I am up and about to reply to you, when you could be back in operation in a couple of minutes if you just did it.
Ground Station validation
John and David handle most of these but we would all appreciate it if you could make sure that the system passes all the tests in Help..Test networking..Check GS/MU status before you ask for it to be validated. If you don't, then we will simply ask you to run the check and fix the problem before asking again so in this case too, it will save you sending emails and waiting for a response if you just make sure the system is passing all the tests before you ask. A surprising number of people ask for validation and then turn the system off. It is supposed to be on round the clock and we certainly cannot test it unless it is up and running. Please, if you ask for validation, leave the system running.
Port forwarding
This generates quite a lot of work because the technique is different for each type of router. Common problems include using the wrong LAN IP address (they do change on some systems), using the wrong protocol (just UDP is fine) and entering the details twice (most routers don't forward packets if there are two definitions for the same port number). Recent versions of PlanePlotter can trigger the UPnP setting on a connected router but that will only work if you enable the UPnP option in the router setup. Some default to UPnp on but some default to UPnP off. If you are a chronic port forwarding failure user, please consider enabling UPnP in the router setup so that it will be done for you.
PC clock
A surprising number of users cannot keep their PC clocks correct. The maximum tolerance is 2 seconds and it is so easy to keep the PC clock within those limits by installing NTP. David T has an excellent tutorial on setting it up and it only takes a few minutes to do it.
Enjoy!

Hi
We have now 150 new RadarBox ComStations deployed.
These units are capable of streaming ADS-B and Audio. It is not easy to have very good VHF
receptions conditions as it is to have ADS-B reception. Thus we have only approved 40 now for VHF (good VHF reception conditions - these are present on 20 countries - not just US and Portugal - check RadarBox24.com right panel for a list of countries now available).
The good news is that we are offering 2000 RadarBox ComStation units in the next 3/4 months to increase coverage thus these numbers will increase significantly (we are shipping 150 units this week).
Hope this clarified the audio point.

Ask the Captain: What should I do if I see ice on the wing?
Question: On a 737-800 cruising through clouds at 20,000 feet, I noticed significant ice building on the wings. Ice was inches thick and breaking off in chunks near the engine. The outer slats were covered in smooth ice and the winglet was covered in rough ice. After about 20 minutes, the pilot went above the clouds and the ice eventually went away. Should I have alerted a flight attendant?
Answer: Jets use hot air from the engines to remove ice from the leading edge of the wing. The winglets are not heated and the top of the wing is not heated. At cruising speed, icing is less of an issue than at lower speeds, but pilots pay attention to it in all conditions. It would have been appropriate to let the flight attendant know.

TOURING THE UNITED AIRLINES NETWORK OPERATIONS CENTER IN CHICAGO
Your typical airline headquarters and operations center is somewhere near a major hub airport, usually in some nondescript building with views that don't really inspire much of anything. Embraer Deliveries Reach Five-year High Mark
Embraer delivered a total of 221 business jets and airliners last year, marking its highest number of aircraft shipments in five years. Deliveries were up by 13 aircraft year-over-year, with both its executive aviation and commercial aviation units making gains. The business jet deliveries met Embraer's guidance numbers, while commercial aircraft deliveries were above guidance.
The Brazilian manufacturer handed over 120 business jets last year—the most since 2010, when it shipped 144. Last year's deliveries were up by four aircraft over the 116 delivered in 2014. But the mix of business jet deliveries was more favorable last year, with midsize and large-cabin jet deliveries growing while deliveries of its Phenom light jets waned. The 2015 shipments included 82 Phenoms and 38 of the larger jets, which include the Legacy 450, 500 and 600 and Lineage 1000. In 2014, Phenoms accounted for 92 of the deliveries and larger jets the remaining 24 deliveries.

Inventor pitches detachable airplane cabin to save lives during crashes
The latest innovation in airplane safety might just be a detachable cabin, at least according to a Russian inventor who released his designs for the technology this week.
Tatarenko Vladimir Nikolaevich has spent three years working on the project, which would allow for an airplane's cabin to detach at any point during mid-flight, takeoff, or landing in case of emergency, The Independent reported.
In the event of detachment, parachutes would deploy to deliver the cabin to a safe landing on the ground or in the water.

Solar Impulse Team Reveals 2016 Plans
Solar-powered round-the-world flight is scheduled to resume this spring.
The Solar Impulse team has released its plans for 2016, including the continuation of the round-the-world flight of the all-solar-powered Si2. With new batteries installed, flight testing will begin in Hawaii toward the end of February, but the team does not plan to take off across the Pacific Ocean until April 20 at the earliest.
Rather than planning just one route for the continued journey, the Solar Impulse team is giving itself options to allow the Si2 pilots and Solar Impulse co-founders, André Borschberg and Bertrand Piccard, to take advantage of the best weather opportunities at the time of the flights. Boeing to reduce 747-8 production after low market demand
Boeing has announced it will reduce the production rate of its 747-8 in order to align supply with near-term demand in the cargo market.
The reduction is the fourth for the company in less than two years.
Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Ray Conner said: "Global air passenger traffic growth and airplane demand remain strong, but the air cargo market recovery that began in late 2013 has stalled in recent months and slowed demand for the 747-8 freighter.
"While we remain confident in the 747-8's unique value-proposition and an upcoming replacement cycle for late-model 747-400 freighters, we are taking the prudent step to further align production with current market requirements."

2015 Orders, Deliveries Dwindle at Airbus Helicopters
Orders and deliveries at Airbus Helicopters last year fell to 333 and 393 helicopters, respectively, down from 402 and 471 in 2014. Revenues were even between French helicopter manufacturer's civil and military activities, it said.
CEO Guillaume Faury blamed low oil prices, which have hurt Airbus Helicopters' offshore oil customers, and "delays in key military campaigns." A mere two orders were thus received for the H225 family. Nevertheless, the company claims a slight increase in market share for civil and parapublic operations, to 45 percent by volume. A strong performer was the H175 super-medium twin, with 36 orders booked. The order book will open this year for the new H160 medium twin, the second prototype of which has just flown with Turbomeca engines.

PlanePlotter version 6.4.4.1 now available for download - Released January 26, 2016
From Bev,
Hi,
PlanePlotter version 6.4.4.1 is now available for download by following the link on the PlanePlotter web site.
http://www.planeplotter.com
-----------
New in version 6.4.4.1
Manual Mlats
When you did a manual Mlat in previous versions, the request for raw data from other Ground Stations was sent through the server. In this version, the request is made directly to each Ground Station. This relieves the server of the load associated with the request but I am hoping that some routers, even if port forwarding has not been done, might see the outgoing packets and guess where to send the returning packets. The evidence is not 100% in favour but there is some optimism that it might work on some systems. Please be aware that correctly implemented port forwarding is still 100% required for any system that aspires to fulfill the role of Ground Station.
Plane Finder Radar receiver
This release of PlanePlotter supports the impending new Plane Finder Radar receiver. There is a new option in the Mode-S list box in Options..I/O settings. Initial testing of this receiver indicates that its performance is on a par with the other high-performing receivers for Mode-S and Mode-A//C.
ADSBspy update
This release supports the optional new firmware for the ADSBspy receiver that now adds the signal strength to the received data.
Registrations via sharing
If you enabled the option to accept registrations via sharing, in the past it could have overwritten a real registration with the .NO-REG remark if that arrived from a sharing user with no SQB database. This version will no longer overwrite a registration with .NO-REG even if it is received via sharing and updating is enabled.
Cosmetics
The Tools..Display ping log option no longer acquires a tick if no file was actually selected.
If you select Upload Only, it no longer shows "download failed" in the status bar every share cycle. The same symptom that used to appear during a manual Mlat will have disappeared as the server is no longer in the loop for a manual Mlat.
Enjoy!
Regards
Bev

This company detects aircraft cracking and its shares are up 287pc this year
Delta Air Lines is using Structural Monitoring System's sensors to detect fatigue on some of its aircraft.
SMS shares have risen by 40 per cent to $1.47 since it received approval in late December from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Boeing for its technology after a test program with some of Delta's 737s.
Overall, SMS shares have risen by 287 per cent over the last 12 months, compared with a 10.1 per cent fall in the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index over the same period.
The FAA and Boeing approvals mean SMS has the only commercially-approved technology for on-aircraft monitoring of cracking and structural fatigue in the world. The sensors are placed on the aircraft and help provide early warning of any developing cracks.

"The non-stop din of helicopters has been a major quality of life issue for New Yorkers living near heavily trafficked routes," said Mayor Bill de Blasio. "Today we're addressing it."
Last year, choppers made about 58,000 flights from the city's only commercial helipad.

Boeing Wins Contract For New Air Force One
January 31, 2016
Boeing has won a contract to start preliminary work on two new Air Force One presidential aircraft based on the 747-8.
The US Air Force awarded Boeing an initial contract worth USD$25.8 million to reduce risk and lower the cost of the programme by looking at the tradeoffs between the requirements and design of the new plane, according to the Pentagon's daily digest of arms deals.
Details about the total value of the new contract have not been released, but the Air Force has previously said that it had earmarked USD$1.65 billion for two replacement aircraft.
The Air Force first announced in January 2015 that Boeing's 747-8 would be used to replace the two current Air Force planes used to transport the US president. Air Force One is one of the most visible symbols of the United States.

Qatar Airways announces plans for world's longest flight
Qatar Airways has announced plans to launch the world's longest direct flight: a 9,034-mile schlep from Doha to Auckland.
Should the route get the green light, it would beat the current record holder – Qantas's Dallas-Sydney service – by almost 500 miles.
The journey time would be an estimated 18 hours and 34 minutes, according to the journey planning website travelmath.com.
Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways CEO, told Bloomberg Business that it was also hoping to fly from Doha to Santiago in Chile: a 8,956-mile journey, as well as launch new routes to Marrakech, Lisbon and Phuket, but no start dates have yet been announced.

European Bizav Operators Unprepared for EASA Part-NCC
February 1, 2016
Non-commercial operators of more than 6,000 business jets and turboprop twins based in Europe are largely unprepared for EASA's new Part-NCC (non-commercial complex) rules that will set higher safety standards this summer, attendees were told at a conference run by Aeropodium late last week at London Heathrow Airport. Beginning August 25, these operators will have to comply with a similar safety framework to that for commercial air operating certificate holders, but on the basis of a "declaration" by an "accountable manager" that they are compliant. The move will affect business aircraft registered in an EASA state or those registered in a non-EASA state by an operator that is established or resides in an EASA state.
Preparation for Part-NCC will include having a safety management system (SMS) in place, as well as compliance monitoring, an operations manual, minimum equipment list, record-keeping and various training requirements. Performance and operating limitations and equipment all have to be covered in detail for all aircraft. It all comes under the provisions of EU Regulation 965/2012, but although it concerns EASA, it is the national authorities that will administer Part-NCC.

A rocket-shaped object the size of two "two litre fizzy drink bottles" passed "very close" to a passenger aircraft at about 1,500ft (457m), a report has found.
The A321 Airbus pilot estimated the object passed 100ft (30m) from his jet, the UK Airprox Board report said.
The pilot saw the object pass the jet's starboard side after departing from Birmingham Airport last August said the Birmingham Mail. The air safety body put the risk of collision as "medium".

BA Threatens To Leave London City Airport - Report
February 2, 2016
British Airways has considered pulling most of its aircraft out of London City airport if a new owner raised charges to cover the GBP£2 billion price tag on the airport, according to a media report.
This move could prove to be a hurdle for the airport's sale, which already attracted three groups including Cheung Kong Infrastructure, Atlantia Spa and another three consortia, one of which is led by Macquarie Infrastructure.
"If the owners succeed in selling this for GBP£2 billion, we cannot see how a buyer will be able to recover or make any return on that investment unless they make a significant increase in airport charges," Willie Walsh, chief executive of IAG, British Airways' parent, the Financial Times reported.
Walsh told the newspaper that he had serious concerns about the owners' valuation, which would represent a multiple of 44 times the airport's EBITDA earnings.
"We will not stay in London City at the levels we are today if these charges increase. Quite honestly the margins we make at London City would not support any increase in charges." Walsh added.

Movie theaters could be coming to an airport near you
In theory, airports and cinemas seem made for each other.
If polls are anything to go by, the demand for more airport entertainment is sky high, and certainly cinemas can't ask for an audience more captive than one waiting out a long layover.
Yet few airports seem to have been willing to take the plunge, until now.
Portland International Airport will soon be the latest in a slew of travel hubs to adopt a movie theater. And, being Portland, it's likely to be a hipster's dream.

Bev at COAA
Hi
I need to clarify an important point regarding the coaa.h file that is issued freely to RPi systems that are uploading to the sharing network.
Each coaa.h file is generated for a specific installation and its contents are recorded in the server database. The file must not ever be used on a different system and it must never be edited. It should be included in the compilation of the firmware in the RPi as it stands with no changes made to it.
If you wish to create another RPI uploader, please make sure that you request a second personalised copy of coaa.h for the second installation so that the server database continues accurately to reflect what is out there.
I am sorry this was previously not clear to all users and I apologize for the inconvenience to those users who unwittingly edited their coaa.h file and subsequently found their registrations cancelled.
Regards
Bev

Bizav Flying in Europe Gets Off To Bad Start in 2016
February 4, 2016
Business aviation activity in Europe started off this year on bad footing, with departures falling 4.5 percent year-over-year last month, to 47,628, according to data released today by WingX Advance. Flights of business jets and pistons were each down 5 percent from a year ago, while turboprop flights declined 1.5 percent.
Last month's decline mainly came in Western Europe—especially in France, Italy and Spain—which accounted for about one-third of the total 2,220 fewer departures in the entire region from a year ago. Activity in Southern Europe weakened by 8 percent last month and flights from Europe to the CIS region slid 14 percent.

FAA bans drones from 32 miles around the football game on Sunday.
'Deadly force' an option if drones threaten the game
f San Francisco Bay Area residents don't want to watch the Super Bowl on Sunday, they can forget about flying their drones.
The Federal Aviation Administration has banned all drones from flying anywhere within a 32-mile radius of Levi's Stadium as part of a complex and strict set of rules for all air traffic. That's an area that includes all of Silicon Valley, San Jose, Oakland and most of San Francisco.
Drones, model aircraft, model rockets, hang gliding, crop dusting and parachuting are among the aviation activities banned from 2 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Sunday. The game coverage begins at 5 p.m. ET.
The rules, which allow emergency, military and commercial air travel, are part of the major security operation being mounted to keep the stadium safe. On Wednesday, law enforcement officials said there is "no credible threat" against the event.

Airservices thanks ADS-B Operators
04 Feb 2016
Airservices Australia Executive General Manager Greg Hood has thanked operators who fitted their aircraft with ADS-B ahead of the 2 February 2017 mandate.
In a statement released today, Hood thanked operators for what he said was their commitment to ADS-B technology.
"ADS-B is the future of air traffic surveillance in Australia and around the world," he said.
"I would like to congratulate and thank all operators that have already fitted their aircraft with ADS-B and remind every IFR operator to make sure they get fitted before 2 February 2017."
Airservices says there are around 1300 aircraft not yet fitted as well as about 60% of Australia's IFR helicopter fleet.
IFR aircraft flying at or above FL290 have had to be ADS-B capable since 12 December 2013. The mandate in February next year extends that to all altitudes.
VFR aircraft do not need ADS-B to operate provided they remain in Class D or G airspace below 10,000 feet AMSL. A Mode S ADS-B capable transponder is already required for VFR flight in Class E airspace.

F-35 fighter jet development hampered by many flaws
A list of serious flaws has been found in a jet fighter in development for 15 years.
The F-35's ejector seat "failed to meet neck-injury criteria" and the jet had a "limited ability to respond to threats", the US defence department has said.
The jet's development, by Lockheed Martin, has already cost $1 trillion (£0.7tn), partly funded by the UK.
Previously, its UK planned deployment date was put back from 2012 to 2023.

2 planes collide midair, plunge into ocean off Los Angeles
Two small planes collided over the ocean just outside Los Angeles Harbor and plunged into the water Friday, prompting a massive search by dozens of boats and divers. As darkness fell there was no sign of survivors.
The Coast Guard said the collision occurred about 3:30 p.m. on a dazzlingly sunny day. Investigators had no immediate word on what might have caused the accident or the number of people aboard the two planes.
Fire and lifeguard boats and rescue divers swarmed the area about two miles outside the entrance to the harbor, where water depths were 80 feet to 90 feet.

Garmin announces all-in-one ADS-B transponders
GTX 345/335 provide simple upgrade path for many aircraft
Garmin's new ADS-B transponders can bring traffic to older G1000 and other displays.
A line of all-in-one ADS-B transponders announced Feb. 9 became the latest addition to Garmin International's line of Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast products. The GTX 345 is a 1090ES Mode S transponder that provides ADS-B Out compliance; it also receives weather information on the 978-MHz Universal Access Transceiver frequency, and traffic information on both ADS-B datalink frequencies. The GTX 335 provides ADS-B Out only. An integral WAAS GPS receiver that meets the ADS-B Out position source requirements is available as an option for both transponders.
The GTX 345 can display ADS-B traffic and weather on a variety of current and legacy Garmin displays, including the G1000 Integrated Flight Deck. Built-in Bluetooth capabilities allow traffic and weather data to be shared wirelessly with tablets running the Garmin Pilot or ForeFlight Mobile apps. Both the GTX 345 and 335 are available in remote-mount configurations, where they can be controlled by a Garmin G1000 or GTN 650/750.

FAA warns airlines against lithium battery cargo shipping
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has warned commercial passenger and cargo airlines against shipping lithium batteries due to safety hazards, including the possible risk of explosion.
The agency asked airlines to carry out a safety risk assessment to deal with the danger involved in the transportation of lithium batteries such as rechargeable lithium ion batteries used in cameras, cell phones, laptop computers, and radio-controlled toys, as well as lithium polymer batteries.
Providing a guideline to its officials, the FAA also directed them to inspect whether the airlines properly assess the risk while managing and transporting lithium batteries as cargo.

Gatwick accelerates £2.5b expansion plans as runway decision looms
Gatwick Airport has today announced the acceleration and expansion of its investment programme, totalling £2.5 billion, to cope with rapid passenger growth, and has opened discussions with contractors about building its second runway.
Speaking to a group of more than 80 construction leaders and chief executives at Construction News' quarterly breakfast briefing, Gatwick development director Raymond Melee told guests that Gatwick is rapidly approaching full capacity and investment plans are being brought forward to cope with growing passenger numbers.
The news comes despite persistent delays in potential expansion plans.
Heathrow is currently favourite to be given the go ahead for a new runway, with a government decision expected after the London mayoral election on May 5th.
However, Gatwick will soon hit the 41 million annual passengers mark - a global record for a single runway airport - and is racing towards full capacity.

Air traffic controllers ready to break away from FAA
Thirty-five years ago, President Ronald Reagan parted ways with the nation's air traffic controllers, and now they are prepared to return the favor, the head of their union told Congress on Wednesday.
Paul Rinaldi, president of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association, told the House Transportation Committee that his union supports legislation that would move his members to a private, nonprofit corporation that would supervise 50,000 U.S. flights each day.
The House bill to create the federally chartered corporation would transfer about 38,000 federal workers, including 14,000 controllers who now work for the Federal Aviation Administration. With the workforce would go a mega-project called NextGen, a modernization of the air system that will cost at least $40 billion.
Rinaldi said that he doubted modernization of the current antiquated system would progress expeditiously if left in the FAA's hands.

Indonesia Introduces Aging (sic) Aircraft Ban
A new Indonesian Ministry of Transportation (MOT) rule banning the import of any commercial passenger aircraft more than 10 years old and freighters more than 15 years old amounts to merely a cosmetic exercise, according to a senior aviation technical executive, while a ban on any aircraft more than 30 years old appeared likely to cause serious financial hardship for operators of some commercial, general aviation and regional aircraft.
Ignasius Jonan, Indonesia's Minister of Transportation, signed the new rule into law on October 16, two weeks after a 34-year-old de Havilland Canada Twin Otter 300 operated by Aviastar Mandiri crashed into Mount Latimojong during a scheduled passenger flight from Masamba to Makassar on the island of Sulawesi, killing all 10 people aboard.
However according to Phil Seymour, CEO of UK-based aviation technical services and data company IBA Group, the rule's enactment would likely not improve Indonesia's poor commercial-aviation safety record.
"Age restrictions are a fudge, because it's easy for authorities to impose restrictions," said Seymour. "I get very concerned with what these restrictions are trying to do. If they're meant to improve the safety record, it becomes almost irrelevant. [The Indonesian authorities] have much bigger problems they must face up to."

Crew Saves Pilot In Crisis Over IS Territory
A quick-thinking refuelling plane crew saved a fighter pilot who faced having to eject over Islamic State territory.
The F-16 had been trying to refuel in mid-air when the pilot discovered a malfunction with his fuel system, which meant he could only fly for 15 minutes - nowhere near enough to reach safety

Man Arrested For Damaging Wrong Jet
A 30-year-old man is in jail after causing up to $30,000 worth of damage to a former military aircraft that he thought belonged to Microsoft founding partner Paul Allen. The man was spotted inside the fence at Arlington Municipal Airport, north of Seattle, allegedly breaking pieces off the exterior of a Dornier Alpha Jet, a French/German-built trainer and light attack aircraft. County of Tulare Sheriffs Office Light Sport Crash Kills Two
Despite some eyewitness reports, including one from a long-time pilot, it's still not clear what led to the crash of a law enforcement version of a Flight Design Light Sport aircraft in California last week.
Sheriff's Deputy Scott Ballantyne, 52, and James Chavez, 45, a pilot for the Tulare County Sheriff's Office died when the specially equipped CTLE aircraft crashed into a hillside near Visalia, which is between Fresno and Bakersfield.
The aircraft had been taking part in the arrest of an armed suspect in the area. The onboard ballistic parachute was not deployed and no distress call was heard.
The county bought the aircraft in 2014. It is equipped with a gyro-stabilized sensor pod giving it a wide range of airborne surveillance capabilities and is sold as a cost-effective alternative to similarly equipped larger aircraft and helicopters.
Les Pinter, a 40-year pilot who saw the airplane just before it crashed said it was about 300 feet AGL.

Russia Moving Ahead With MA-60 Production
Chinese investors recently signed a "framework agreement" with Russia's ministry for development of eastern regions (MinVostokRazvitia) to establish a new assembly line in the Russian city of Komsomolsk-upon-Amur for Xian Aircraft's MA-60 turboprop. Timed to coincide with Russian president Vladimir Putin's visit to Beijing last September, the deal involves a partnership between Xian Aircraft and the Jiangsu Baoli International Investment company to help fund the production of 50 aircraft a year.
"This aircraft is oriented for export into 16 countries, including Russia," said Alexander Galushka, Russia's minister for eastern development. Plans call for building a production line in the TOR Komsomolsk industrial zone.

FAA partners with DHS and CACI to detect rogue drones flying close to airports
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has partnered with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and CACI International to find safe procedures and processes to operate technologies to detect rogue drones or unmanned aircraft (UAS) flying close to airports.
Under the partnership, CACI International's prototype detection technology, SkyTracker, was tested at Atlantic City International Airport (ACY) over five days to examine whether it can help detect drones in the vicinity of airports.
During the five-day period, 141 operations were conducted, of which 72 were with a UAS on the ground and 69 were with various small UAS in flight.
Over the next few months, engineers from FAA, DHS, CACI and the University of Maryland (UMD), which was a partner in the assessment, will compile data for a final report to be published by August.
The initiative was taken against the backdrop of the threat posed by an increasing number of UAS near airports or manned airplanes.
FAA stated every month it receives more than 100 reports from pilots and others who spot UAS flying near an airport or a passenger plane.

Singapore, Aireon Sign Agreement for Space-Based ADS-B
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and Aireon have signed an agreement to provide space-based automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) data for the Singapore flight information region. Singapore CAAS is the first air navigation service provider in the Asia-Pacific region to adopt space-based ADS-B.
Aireon's surveillance system will use ADS-B receivers carried as hosted payloads on Iridium Next satellites. Based in McLean, Va., Aireon is a joint venture of Iridium Communications and air navigation service providers Nav Canada, ENAV of Italy, Naviair of Denmark and the Irish Aviation Authority.
Over the next two years, CAAS will install the necessary infrastructure to integrate its ATC systems with the ADS-B service, which begins operating in 2018. The agreement with Aireon includes a 12-year subscription to the space-based ADS-B service, which will provide comprehensive surveillance coverage over the airspace of the Singapore FIR.

L-3 Unveils ADS-B Solution for Helicopters
Many helicopter owners and operators now have a quick and easy solution to comply with the FAA's mandate to equip their aircraft for ADS-B out. L-3 Aviation Products announced yesterday at Heli-Expo 2016 that it has obtained FAA approval for installation of its Lynx line of ADS-B products in 93 helicopter models. The fixed-wing product has been in use for about a year.
The approval for the one-box system, which includes both ADS-B in traffic and weather information and touchscreen control, fits into the same space on the panel as a standard transponder, said Larry Riddle, vice president of marketing and sales for L-3 Aviation Products (Booth 2411). "L-3's top-of-the-line Lynx NGT-9000 is an all-in-one solution for rotorcraft operators needing to replace their aging transponder while achieving ADS-B compliance." The company also offers remote-mount versions.

The aircraft is the first in a series of Nasa's ten-year New Aviation Horizons initiative, mentioned in its 2017 fiscal budget.
Under the Basic and Applied Aerospace Research and Technology (BAART) contract at Nasa's Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, US, Lockheed will perform the work.
Nasa administrator Charles Bolden said: "Nasa is working hard to make flight greener, safer and quieter, all while developing aircraft that travel faster, and building an aviation system that operates more efficiently.

Honeywell predicts between 4,300 and 4,800 helicopter deliveries made worldwide over next five years
Honeywell has predicted that between 4,300 to 4,800 civilian-use helicopters will be delivered worldwide over the next five years, reducing the volume by nearly 400 helicopters announced in the last five-year forecast.
Shown in the company's 18th annual Turbine-Powered Civil Helicopter Purchase Outlook, the reduction in the helicopter delivery has been attributed to slower global economic growth environment, increased instability in the oil and gas-related markets and other reasons.
According to the survey conducted by Honeywell, the new purchase-plan rates for helicopters are in stable condition, but operators are expected to buy fewer total new models from now to 2020, leading to a more cautious near-term outlook.
While buying a new helicopter, operators are expected to stick to their previous choice of the make and models, mostly subjected to range, cabin size, performance, technology upgrades and brand experience.

Bell Helicopters Debut At Heli-Expo
Heli-Expo, the annual event hosted by Helicopter Association International, opened in Louisville, Kentucky, this week, with about 700 exhibitors and 60 helicopters on display. Two aircraft being shown for the first time are Bell's flight-test vehicles for the 525 Relentless and the 505 Jet Ranger X programs. Bell officials said they have nearly 80 letters of intent for the 525, which first flew last July, and more than 350 interested in the 505. Honeywell officials said at the show they expect slower economic growth over the next five years, with 4,300 to 4,800 helicopter deliveries worldwide, about 400 less than last year's forecast.

Having undertaken a thorough review of Brian's posts and after consulting our members, the consensus is they're not worth repeating here.
I know Brian is responsible for over 90% of the Dark Side's posts and is feeling lonely, but it's time to move on.
I couldn't agree more, total drivel
I couldn't help but chuckle when I saw this fine example of Brian's use of a popular idiom.
As they say "Pot, kettle, black" :)
And does anyone know where I can find a copy of the agreement?
